Tony Amaradio Shares Important Principles of Stewardship

As an asset manager and as a Christian, Tony Amaradio has long followed the Biblical concept of stewardship as a guiding force in his life. He has garnered thirty-five years experience in the financial industry as founder of the company, Select Portfolio Management, and has hosted his own daily radio show called “Market Talk” for two decades. Together with this wife, Carin, he co-authored the successful book, “Faithful With Much”. The couple works tirelessly in helping selected ministries and non-profit organizations manage and grow their assets. Tony recently shared his personal insight into the fundamental connection between our spiritual lives and how we think about and handle money.

“The first, and most important aspect of stewardship is to understand that God owns everything,” says Tony Amaradio. “As Psalm 24:1 says, ‘The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.’ Understanding that we don’t own anything, we likewise learn that we have nothing to lose.  And without the attachment, we can be more generous with our wealth.”

Another key principle of stewardship is to manage what is entrusted to us by God as effectively as possible. This extends from day-to-day financial management and planning all the way to estate planning.  Amaradio’s “Legacy Model” of integrated wealth management was developed with his team of expert practitioners to address several strategies of financial, tax and asset protection plans. A third principle is to give generously to God and others, as demonstrated in the Bible story of the poor widow who gave out of her poverty – sacrificing more - compared to the rich man who was giving out of his wealth (Mark 12:41-44; Luke 21:1-4).  And a final aspect of being an effective steward for the money owned by God is to ultimately not put your trust in wealth.  Money comes and goes, explains Amaradio.   He points to I Timothy 6:17 - “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
