Seventh Annual Rock The Block 10k, 5k & Fun Run Offers Free Running to Active Military and Veterans on Memorial Day Weekend

The Jim Utley Foundation will hold its seventh annual Rock The Block 10k, 5k & Fun Run on Saturday, May 28^th at 8:30 a.m. at Oak Point Park (Amphitheater) & Nature Preserve in Plano, Texas. The Foundation offers free race participation to active military and U.S. veterans with proof of service/military identification. Those individuals must send contact information and military identification to info@donteventryit.org and they will be emailed a code to pre-register for the event online by Thursday, May 26th in order to receive free registration fees.

It is estimated that over 2,000 race participants, volunteers and spectators will attend this year’s Rock The Block. “It grows each year,” says Katherine Utley, board member and mother of Jim Utley, whom the foundation was named after. “Jim passed away ten years ago and we are so proud that his name lives on doing great things in our community.”

The Jim Utley Foundation helps youth realize the benefits of healthy and productive living without the use of street drugs and unnecessary prescription medication. The organization rewards and/or recognizes youth ages 10-17 years for getting good grades, performing community service and being active in extracurricular activities like sports and clubs. Rock The Block 2016 benefits The Jim Utley Foundation’s Scholarship Fund, which will help youth in-need afford summer camp as well as other activities to keep them busy and out of trouble.

Changes to this year’s event include live music on the course by Counterfeit Radio as well as new race shirt and trophy designs and finisher medals for all participants, while supplies last.
