Rubielen R. Norris selected as "Woman of the Year" for 2016 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

Rubielen R. Norris, Former President of United Way of Northeast Georgia, has been selected as "Woman of the Year" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With over 30 years of professional experience, Rubielen has certainly proved herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the non-profit industry. She volunteered with the United Way of Northeast Georgia for 9 years before joining the staff.  Before her retirement in April 2016, her key responsibilities included: Fundraising; Volunteer Management; Event Planning; Community Development; Strategic Marketing; Board Development; Executive Business Administration; Executive Team Building; Public Speaking; Public Relations; Negotiations; and Contractual Negotiations.  Under Rubielen’s leadership, the United Way of Northeast Georgia has grown to support 28 agencies in nine counties and has raised and allocated over 50 million dollars to various nonprofit organizations.

Rubielen’s work has been recognized worldwide and she has received numerous awards for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession.  For 2016 not only was she selected as “Woman of the Year” for her outstanding leadership and community work, but she was also selected by the International Society of Business Leaders as “Outstanding Professional of the Year!”  She received a Proclamation from Athens Mayor Nancy Denson, to declare March 23, 2016 as Rubielen Norris Day and was also given a Key to the City. The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce presented her the Athena Award for 2016. The Classic Center presented Rubielen with an Athena Statue for her dedication and contributions to help those in need and saving lives. The In Touch Management Group Youth Academy saluted Rubielen with the “Virtuous Woman Award” on May 7, 2016. The Georgia United Way Professional Association presented her with a Watercolor painting of St. Simons Lighthouse for 30 years of service to the Association. The United Way International recognized Rubielen at their Leaders Conference for 30 years of service.  Rubielen states  “It has been quite a year of awards and most of them very unexpected but cherished.” She remains as an active member of the National Women’s Leadership Association, The United Way State Professional Association, The Athens Rotary Club, and the Georgia Arabian Horse Association.  In her spare time she enjoys travel, whitewater rafting, and reading.

Looking back, Rubielen attributes her success to her hard work, perseverance and passion for helping people.  For the future she will continue her consulting work, helping her community, and continuing to make a difference in people’s lives.
