Hundreds graduate April 22 from Detroit Rescue Mission feeling empowered, hopeful

The men and women graduating from life-bettering programs of 107-year-old Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries (DRMM, http://drmm.org) at 11am on Fri. April 22 at 3606 East Forest Detroit, say they feel empowered, hopeful and poised to contribute to the betterment of society.

Having successfully completed their programs at DRMM facilities in metro Detroit, the graduates numbering over 300 would be conferred with certificates of achievement at the free admission event to be attended by their friends and family as well as elected officials and community leaders. Two of the graduates will also receive yet-to-be-disclosed donations from DRMM president Dr. Chad Audi. 

"DRMM has given me the skills that I need to live a clean and sober life. I will be the woman that God wants me to be," said Shawana Boyd. Another graduate, Timothy Burch, spoke of the opportunity DRMM gave him tostep back and take a look at my life and how I can better improve upon my life going forward." Yet another graduate, Carthel Thornton, noted thatDRMM has helped me get my health stable and address my addiction. I have found an apartment and will be moving on with my life.” As for Charles Scott who could neither find employment nor rent an apartment after getting out of prison, “The Mission not only gave me employment as a cook but they are... changing my whole outlook on life and making me a better person especially in the way I treat others."

Speakers at the luncheon include Free Press columnist Mitch Albom, Detroit News columnist Bankole Thompson, and former pro basketballer, Kurt David.

The event will also feature presentation of the 2016 DRMM Pillar Awards to Amy Lange of Fox 2 News, Karen Bouffard of Detroit News, Judge Timothy Kenny of Wayne County Circuit Court, and Muhammed Qazi, founder of Ciena Healthcare. 

“It is indeed a day of happiness and hope for us and our commendable graduates, many of whom are already gainfully employed in metro Detroit,” posited Dr. Audi.
