FEDOR EMELIANENKO DEFEATS MALDONADO AT EFN 50

  ST. PETERSBURG, RUSSIA - 06/17/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

One of MMA’s all-time favorites, Fedor Emelianenko,  has defeated Brazilian heavyweight Fabio Maldonado by a close decision (28:28, 29:28, 29:28) in Saint Petersburg, Russia.   The highly anticipated three-round fight was streamed live on UFC Fight Pass and headlined the anniversary MMA tournament - EFN 50, which was organized by Eurasia Fight Nights and promoter Kamil Gadzhiev.  EFN 50 attracted more than 9,000 spectators in Sibur Arena and millions of TV viewers worldwide.

The fight also featured an unprecedented 360-degree video feed provided by RT Channel. Emelianenko, known as “The Last Emperor,” fought for the first time at home since 2012, when he took a 3-year break from MMA. He is a four-time MMA champion and has been called “The Michael Jordan of MMA”.

The fight showed two different styles of mixed martial arts, two schools” said Eurasia Fight Nights co-founder and CEO Kamil Gadzhiev. “Maldonado showed great sportsmanship, and proved he is a tough opponent for any fighter. Gadzhiev noted that cooperation with the MMA Union of Russia was key to hosting the successful tournament in Saint Petersburg. The event became part of the annual Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2016), which attracted business leaders from around the globe.  Gadzhiev also said that EFN is negotiating a tournament in the United States and hopes to promote MMA by organizing many more events and raising new fighters in Russia.
