Catherine Gruener selected as "Top Clinical Professional Counselor of the Year" for 2016 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

Catherine Gruener, M.A., M.A., LCPC, NCC, M.A. in Neuropsychology, M.A. in Professional Counseling, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Certified Positive Discipline Educator (PDTC), Founder & President, Gruener Consulting LLC, was selected as "Top Clinical Professional Counselor of the Year" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals. 

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With over 20 years of professional experience in the Mental Healthcare Field, Catherine has certainly proved herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, she has demonstrated success with her patients, utilizing her knowledge, enthusiasm and special counseling, therapy, and training techniques.  Catherine has provided visionary leadership in the Counseling Industry and has provided her services for adults, children and families in her private practice in South Elmhurst, North Oak Brook, IL. Her specialties include being a certified Cogmed Coach offering Cogmed Training for working memory issues; Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor for the State of Illinois, Nationally Certified Counselor; and Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator with training in Parent Management Techniques from Yale University.  She provides Parenting Education and Consultations, Positive Discipline classes, seminars and workshops on the social and emotional issues of gifted children. 

First starting in 1993 as a College Instructor for the University of Northern Colorado, Catherine taught Introduction to Psychology while she attended as a graduate student in the Masters Neuropsychology program.  She was responsible for preparing, executing and evaluating the Introductory Psychology courses through the University. In 1996, she took on the role as Psychometrician and Therapist for the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands Guidance Center where she performed adult and adolescent psychosocial and cognitive assessments, federal disability evaluations, and adult and adolescent counseling under the supervision of U.S. licensed psychologists and psychiatrists.   She impressively continued to climb the ranks and excel in all aspects of mental health and obtained a position as Neuropsychometrist at Loyola University Medical Center where she administered and scored adult and child neuropsychological, cognitive and behavioral tests for inpatient and outpatient services and assisted with research.  While completing a second Master’s degree, in Professional Clinical Counseling, Catherine interned for the Illinois Association for Gifted Children, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and Alexian Brothers Center for Mental Health.  In May of 2012, Catherine opened Gruener Consulting LLC.  As Owner and Operator, Catherine’s key responsibilities include offering counseling and therapy, as well as educational services for Parenting, Positive Discipline, and the Social and Emotional Aspects of Gifted Children.

Catherine received her Master of Arts in Counseling from the Adler School of Professional Psychology, where she also became certified in teaching Positive Discipline.  Additionally, she earned a Master of Arts in Neuropsychology from the University of Northern Colorado in 1995.  Catherine has been active in numerous organizations and she has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. In 2011, she was inducted as a Lifetime Member and was named “Outstanding Professional of the Year” by Cambridge Who’s Who.  In 2012 selected as “Top Female Executive.”  In 2014, she had a chapter dedicated to her in the “Top 101 Industry Expert publication.”  In 2016 she was inducted as an honored Lifetime member of the International Association of Top Professionals and named “Top Clinical Professional Counselor of the Year.”  She has been an active volunteer with causes related to the population of gifted children, and is affiliated with several organizations including, the Illinois Association for Gifted Children, The National Association for Gifted Children, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, Associate Member of the American Psychological Association and Professional Member of the American Counseling Association.

Looking back, Catherine attributes her success to her devotion to learning, listening to her intuition, and her compassion for people.  She is a positive leader who takes pride in immersing herself in her research, in helping others, and understanding that through mutual respect, encouragement, empowerment, and personal contributions, people gain dignity and self-worth, resulting in behaviors that benefit others and themselves.  For the future, Catherine will continue to grow as a professional through her work at Gruener Consulting, continue classes, seminars and workshops for educational institutions, state and national organizations, as she strives towards her goals of helping others, creating change, and making a difference in people’s lives.
