CHARLOTTE, NC - 06/13/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

American Burger Co. (ABC), Chanticleer Holdings’ Charlotte-based better burger concept, announces the launch of their 2nd Annual Roadstar Challenge. This year’s challenge features an amateur eating competition followed by a Major League Eating–sanctioned event, with Joey Chestnut and other world-ranked eaters participating.

The burger chain is issuing the call once again to discover who can eat their famous four-patty, one-and-a-half-pound Roadstar cheeseburger in the fastest time for the chance to win $500. Beginning on June 9 and running through July 15, diners can test their eating abilities by ordering a Roadstar burger. A staff member will time all participants and a leaderboard in each participating location will track who has eaten the Roadstar in the fastest time per location. At the conclusion of the Roadstar Challenge qualifiers on July 15, those who ate the Roadstar the fastest will be invited to the Amateur Roadstar Challenge finals on July 23 to go head-to-head against other amateur qualifiers for the chance to win $500 and the title of Roadstar Challenge Champion.

This year, American Burger Co. has teamed up with the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation to help educate, empower, and defend underprivileged students throughout the country. During the qualifying period, $5 from every Roadstar sold will be donated to the Defending Dreams Foundation.

The Roadstar Challenge will culminate in a main event on July 23 beginning at 12 p.m. at American Burger Co.’s SouthPark location. The Amateur Roadstar Challenge finals will kick off the festivities. Following the amateur finals, American Burger Company will host the first-ever Major League Eating (MLE) Roadstar Challenge. This official MLE-sanctioned event will pit the best eaters in the world against each other to see who can devour four Roadstar burgers in the fastest time. World-famous eater Joey Chestnut has committed to attend, with many other globally ranked eaters expected to join.

At the conclusion of the MLE Roadstar Challenge, On The Border – The Ultimate Eagles Tribute Band will play a free-to-the-public concert. Hailing from Charlotte, On The Border has played sold-out shows to their loyal following at major festivals, music venues, and casinos throughout the country.

The entire day is open to the general public. Food and drinks will be served by American Burger Co.

“Last year’s Roadstar Challenge proved to be very popular, and we are looking forward to an even bigger success this year,” said Rich Adams, President & COO of American Burger Co. “We are excited to be partnering with the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation. Thomas is an outstanding role model for students in the Charlotte community and across the country, and we are proud to support this great cause.”

To participate in the Roadstar Challenge, eaters are encouraged to visit one of six American Burger Co. locations in Charlotte, as well as locations in Asheville and Greenville, SC.
