A New Picture Book of a Talking Twig and a Three-Legged Pig Aims To Increase Discussion Surrounding Equality and Inclusion

Rob Tran, author and illustrator of a new picture book, The Twig and the Three-Legged Pig, is encouraging parents to open lines of discussion surrounding equality and inclusion in a vibrant story of a talking twig and a three-legged pig who both get treated unfairly. The main character, a talking twig, doesn’t mind being different, and it’s his friendship with the three-legged pig that carries the story to its unforgettable conclusion.

Before creating the story, Tran had a recurring dream of a pig who kept falling down. From there, he imagined what it would be like to have a disability or a super power. This idea grew into a fully-blossomed children’s book with a magical twig and a three-legged pig as the stars of the show, and most of all – reminds kids to not judge others unfairly.

“This story comes with the message that everyone is different and that’s what makes us special. There’s no need to be afraid of a talking twig who has magical powers. There’s also no need to be afraid of a pig who runs a little bit funny, or sometimes falls down. By the end of the story, we learn about the importance of hope, courage and above all, kindness.”

Rob Tran has loved to draw and write ever since he was little. After spending seven years in the corporate world, he gave up being a Chartered Accountant in order to pursue his love of writing and illustrating for children.
