Songwriter reflects on Presidents Day with Music and Song

2/13/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET) -- Washington's desire for national union made him uncomfortable with party differences. Preparing to leave office in 1796 Washington wrote Thomas Jefferson, "I was no party man myself...and the first wish of my heart was, if parties did exist, to reconcile them.”  Washington wrote in his farewell address, “The name of American, which belongs to you, in your national capacity, must always exalt the just pride of Patriotism, more than any appellation derived from local discriminations.”

It is in the same way today, that some Americans feel divided by party, culture, and region.  The idea of “home” should always be on American minds and the ability to reach out strong to each other  We also need a priority to think of the children and their the future. Our leaders should always be strong guiding “force” at home.   Politicians need to keep moving on and create meaningful jobs as their first priority.  Oh, how I wish today that Americans could come by the river or ride a bus together and feel that unity and pride as the first Americans experienced.  Above all, Americans need to have hope.  Abraham Lincoln and George Washington knew how to convey this hope to the nation.  Maybe it isn’t easy to still believe but consider how these two presidents led a nation in times of trouble and adversity.

Phil Mitchell is an author and composer out Chicago.  His latest album celebrates America with songs as “Reach out Strong, “I Remember You (children), White Horse Rider (George Washington), Crossroads (we face), Come with Me, Keep Movin’ On, Still Believe, By the River, Ride the Bus, and Hope.   Come experience the words in music and song……..
