New York AndroGel Lawsuit Alleges Drug Caused Multiple Strokes

9/11/2015 (PRESS RELEASE JET) -- As reported by Banville Law, a couple from New York have joined the multidistrict litigation (MDL No. 2545) by filing a lawsuit against AndroGel in August of 2015. The complaint filed alleges that the drug caused the plaintiff to have a stroke on several occasions.

MDL No. 2545 was created during the summer of 2014 and is presided over by the Honorable Judge Matthew F. Kennelly in the Northern District of Illinois U.S. District Court. Complaints filed are against various manufacturers of low testosterone products, including AbbVie, Abbott Laboratories, Eli Lilly and Company, Endo Pharmaceuticals, GlaxoSmithKline, and Pfizer, and several others.

This additional lawsuit is specific to AndroGel, which the plaintiff used after it was prescribed to him by his physician. The gentleman used AndroGel from July 2012 until March of 2014, when he suffered his second stroke. In total, during his course of treatment, the plaintiff experienced 2 strokes, one occurring just 3 months after he started the medication, and one occurring in February of 2014.

Detailed complaints allege that the makers of these low testosterone drugs tend to aggressively market the drugs to any men who experience symptoms of decreased testosterone levels, not just to those diagnosed with hypogonadism as the FDA approved. Alarmingly, the lawsuits also claim that use of AndroGel and other low testosterone products can cause serious cardiovascular problems, blood clot issues such as deep vein thrombosis, and stroke.

In this specific case, the plaintiffs are asking for compensation from the defendants. They claim that the defendants knew the risks associated with their products, yet failed to properly address those risks on the warning labels. Other allegations include fraud, negligent misrepresentation, defects in product manufacturing and design, and unjust enrichment.

As men age, their testosterone levels experience a natural decline. This decline can cause health issues, such as erectile dysfunction and decrease in libido, fatigue, emotional instability, and weight gain. At this time, a physician might prescribe low testosterone therapy treatments to a patient because of attributing these side effects to hypogonadism, instead of to naturally declining testosterone levels as they age.

If you or a loved one has suffered from heart problems, blood clots, or a stroke after using AndroGel, you may be able to join with the many people currently filing lawsuits.
