Idiopathic is a condition of unknown cause and perhaps it is better described as an Adverse Drug Reaction. Such reactions have made medical care the leading cause of illness and death, says Dr. Richard Ruhling. He says his former wife also died from an idiopathic cause until he looked in the Physician's Desk Reference and discovered her condition could have been caused by a commonly prescribed urinary antibiotic that his wife took months earlier, but he adds that it's almost impossible to sue drug companies due to government favoring of the pharmaceutical lobbyists.
PRESCOTT, AZ - 1/9/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET) -- The public misunderstands adverse drug reactions as a leading cause of illness or death. They think the person must have overdosed or the medicine was wrong for that condition, but neither is the case. The Journal of American Medical Association reported 106,000 deaths in hospitals and said the drugs were “properly prescribed and administered,” (4-15-98) says Dr. Ruhling, offering the following information:
The Western Journal of Medicine reported 199,000 deaths from drugs as outpatients (not in hospital) as in the previous study. For each death, there were 15 people put in nursing homes (messed up for life?), 40 sick enough to be put in the hospital, and 550 sick enough to see the doctor. (June, 2000). These two reports total 305,000 deaths from drugs 'properly prescribed,' making Rx drugs the #3 cause of death.
But that was 25 years ago! "From 1998 through 2005, reported serious adverse drug events increased 2.6-fold... fatal adverse drug events increased 2.7-fold..." Archives of Internal Medicine, Sep 10, 2007, p 1752. And the article said they didn't know what was causing the increase.
But if deaths increased 2.7 fold from 1998 to 2005, by now we are probably seeing 2 million deaths a year and the TV drug ads approved by Congress began in 1997 are still on TV—the drug companies know what makes them money. And two million deaths a year are less than 1% of the population, but Ruhling says the illness and death rate is much higher...
For example, the average number of prescriptions in a nursing home are 11. Some of these poor people are so spaced out, they can fill their diaper and think every is okay. When they die, the doctor in most cases signs the death certificate as caused by heart disease, but rarely is an autopsy done to see if an artery was blocked or the heart muscle damaged. Two-thirds of deaths from heart disease are in people over 75, many if not most in nursing homes. Ruhling asks if we can see a “statistical problem.”
He visited US Senate offices with the above medical literature until one U.S. Senator said, “You are wasting your time, they own us," referring to drug contributions to their re-election campaign, adding that Congress appears to be full of people who are sold out on various issues.
The pharmaceutical industry spends $400 million/year on congressional re-election campaigns, said Marcia Angell, MD, former editor of New England Journal of Medicine (60 Minutes' interview), now teaching at Harvard. Ruhling says her book, The Truth About the Drug Companies, and her lecture at the University of Montana on YouTube are insightful.
He further notes in the 18th chapter of Revelation that all nations are deceived by sorcery, but the Greek word is pharmakeia. Every nation practicing western medicine is on the brink of bankruptcy and we give huge amounts to drug companies to prolong life a few months. Can't we die quietly at home? And maybe if we gave up all this “symptomatic relief,” we would get to the bottom of what's causing our problems.
Dr. Richard Ruhling is a retired physician. His ebook, Why You Shouldn't Ask Your Doctor offers insights on foods and eating from his own experience in medical practice and headaches that a neurologist said were not caused by food (surprise!) It's on Amazon at no charge on Tuesday, January 12 at http://amzn.to/1I22otT For the best hard copy book on health and eating, he recommends a classic at http://ChooseABetterDestiny.com His website at http://RichardRuhling.com offers an excellent DVD on reversing cardiovascular disease by diet--visitors can see 5 minutes of it, including Bill Clinton's cardiologist from the Cleveland Clinic.
