LOS ANGELES, CA - 12/08/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

World Intervention Day on Thursday, December 14th will be a day to raise awareness of addiction’s very real physical, financial and emotional costs. Overdose is the leading cause of death in Americans under 50, with rates rising each day from deadly addictions. Government and U.S. health officials know that death stemming from drug, overeating, alcohol and tobacco addictions remain far and above the number one source of preventable death. World Intervention Day (second Thursday each December) helps raise awareness as a call to action to get assessed, get stabilized and most importantly, get the help you or a loved one desperately needs to get well.

Interventionist Brad Lamm, founder of Breathe Life Healing Centers and Intervention.com, and author of How to Help the One You Love: A New Way to Intervene (2010), has managed over a thousand interventions and continues to inform and inspire those who feel powerless in the face of another's addiction. He invites those suffering and their support systems alike to join the conversation about motivating each other on the path to wellness. This day of recognition offers a way to rally support for family and friends to step in with hope, determination and a plan to help a loved one in their journey to recovery.

Shocking statistics show how an estimated 88,000 people from alcohol-related causes

annually, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States. The first is tobacco, and the second is poor diet and physical inactivity. Along with this,

  • 7 million Americans meet the criteria for problem gambling
  • 64,000 people died from drug overdose in 2016
  • 8 million suffer from anorexia nervosa, bulimia and related eating disorders
  • 36.5 million Americans smoke cigarettes

World Intervention Day is a chance to bust intervention myths and the very notions of how to help. The support system around a struggling loved one often stands still, even building a support system around the problem that enables crisis. Long after the alarm sounds that help is needed, friends and family struggle to agree upon what to do.

Behind a crisis and the refusal of help, there's a "YES" dying to come out. Brad helps family SAY YES to helping save a life.
