OTTAWA, ONTARIO - 12/18/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

If you are feeling tired all the time and miss the energy you had when you were younger, you’re not alone! Meet Dr. Carri Drzyzga, DC, ND, who is known internationally as The Functional Medicine Doc. The reason you are so tired is why Dr. Drzyzga wrote the book “Reclaim Your Energy and Feel Normal Again,” and why she specializes in working with patients who are frustrated by a lack of energy.

“If you listen to people at the grocery store, at work, or in your circle of friends, you probably find that the number one health complaint today is that people are dog-tired and don’t know why. They lack the energy to simply get through the day much less thrive,” says Dr. Drzyzga. “There’s an epidemic of fatigue among adults due to job and family stress, modern lifestyles, poor sleep, environmental toxins and diets that don’t meet the body’s nutritional needs. These forces can disrupt the body’s internal systems that store, deliver and allow you to access and use energy when you need it.”

The problem, according to Drzyzga, is that fatigue is the most poorly diagnosed and mismanaged condition in most medical offices. “Often patients are prescribed stimulants, told that their problem is psychological, or told to simply get more sleep or take a vacation.”

Dr. Drzyzga goes much deeper, treating fatigue by identifying and fixing the root cause. “I work with highly motivated patients who desperately want their lives back. To restore energy takes hard work and a commitment to change. There is no magic pill, and I don’t do ‘band-aid’ therapy.”

“First, there is a bit of detective work we need to do since the source of fatigue can be different for each patient. We need to rule out anemia, thyroid disorders, and other serious conditions. If those are absent, I perform a detailed assessment and diagnosis to pinpoint which organ, endocrine, hormonal or neurotransmitter systems in the body aren’t functioning optimally. This includes a careful evaluation of the individual’s medical history as well as lab tests to pinpoint the specific imbalances that are causing the fatigue.”

“Once we have that information, I can then prescribe the right strategies that will work best for that patient,” she says. “That’s where the hard work comes in. Patients need to be vigilant over weeks and sometimes months with targeted supplements, dietary modifications, natural treatments, exercise, and sleep hygiene to achieve and sustain the higher energy level they remember from their youth.”
