LAKELAND, FL - 10/06/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

As MHProNews enters its eighth year, we have chosen this occasion to assemble news and commentary on issues that have prompted leaders in manufactured housing to call us "the voice of the manufactured home industry."

It is a responsibility we take seriously each and every day as we take a deep dive into the many issues and challenges presented by public policies, perceptions and misconceptions about what many housing advocates, experts and officials view as a solution to the nation's affordable housing crisis.

As trade publishers, our role is one of advocacy for the industry -- but more importantly it is one of providing credible information that offers a foundation for the many reporters, investors, lawmakers and policy advisors who visit MHProNews and our sister-site MHLivingNews.com on a regular basis.

We rely heavily on academics and independent researchers who provide well-vetted, peer-reviewed reports on issues such as:

Crime and MH Communities

"There are lower rates of crime than you would expect, because they have pride of ownership."

-- William P. McCarty, University of Illinois at Chicago

Nimbyism

"Despite evidence that disproved misconceptions … negative stereotypes continued to influence local governments to impose regulatory restrictions on this type of housing."

-- Lisa Tyler, Bethel University

Construction Standards

Regarding windstorms - “That box is going to be built better than any [conventional] home …"

--Tim Reinhold, chief engineer for the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS)

Fire Risk

"Manufactured homes have a lower rate of civilian fire injuries per 100,000 occupied housing units than other (conventional) one- or two-family homes …"

-- National Fire Prevention Association

These are but a few examples of the issues MHProNews and MHLivingNews have tackled over the years in an ongoing effort to inform and facilitate the dialogue that will forge solutions to the affordable housing crisis.
