Inspired by the videos of other travelers, one Italian drone pilot made a travel video of his own — and won $1,000 in the process.

Mauro Pagliai says he loves watching videos by travel bloggers and decided to make one of his own. Since he can’t travel much, though, he got creative with his latest video project, titled “Not Only NOW, It’s EPIC.”

Using his DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone and other camera equipment, Pagliai took footage of a castle in Italy and also filmed travelers dressed from different eras as they visited the castle. The final product was a journey through time, all while focusing on the same subject matter of the castle.

Pagliai said he uses the point of interest mode on his DJI drone to film the castle at different times of day, and combined those shots to produce the effect of time travel. His video was voted on among four other finalists during the “Drone Video of the Week” contest hosted by AirVuz.com.

Pagliai has been sharing his videos on AirVuz for more than two years, with many of them featuring his dog. His contest-winning video is featured in a curated collection of drone videos from Italy on AirVuz.

As the winner of the Drone Video of the Week contest, this video of Italy is automatically eligible to win the Drone Video of the Month award for the month of July. The monthly contest awards a total of $2,500 in prize money, including $1,000 to the winner.

The Drone Video of the Week contest follows the success of the inaugural AirVuz Drone Video Awards, which selected the best drone videos and photos of 2017. Voters chose winners in 13 categories from a total of more than 33,000 videos.
