JOHNSON CITY, TN - 05/21/2018 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

A group of United States Highland Games Athletes are set to embark on a history making trip late this summer lead by internationally renowned Alex "The Tank" Armor, a Para-Chair Highland Games Athlete and Americas Strongest Athlete with Disabilities (NSD) 2018 from Johnson City, TN. The Royal British Legion of Scotland has extended the invitation for our Adaptive Athletes to compete at the Mey Highland and Cultural Games at John O’Groats in the far North Highlands of Scotland on August 4th, 2018, a first not only for these games, but in the history of Scotland and the UK. This will also be the first time that US athletes have been invited to compete at the Mey Games since its accreditation and sanctioning by the Scottish Highland Games Association.

Uncle Sam’s Highlanders will be educating the Royal British Legion of Scotland on how to incorporate adaptive athletes into the Highland Games, something members have been doing successfully in the United States for over 5 years. The Royal British Legion Scotland, and members of the Royal Family, as HRH Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay is the Chieftain of the games, will learn more about the growing reach of adaptive sport, and the ease of incorporation into existing competition formats.

Athletes from the following locations will be making this historic trip:

  • Johnson City, Tennessee - Alex "The Tank" Armor
  • Phoenix, Arizona - Joe White
  • Roanoke, Virginia - Matthew Hall
  • Wilmington, North Carolina - Amanda Ford
  • Belmont, New York - Matt Hand
  • Vista, California - Felicia Baker
  • Sandy, Utah - Ryan Stewart

The charitable organization Warrior 360 will also be sending a representative.

The majority of the team will be present and competing at Scottish Fest 2018 in Costa Mesa, CA!
