Thomas Snee selected as Top Executive Director of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

Thomas J. (Tom) Snee, Twelfth National Executive Director for the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA), headquartered in Alexandria, VA, was just selected as Top Executive Director of the Year for 2018, by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, and longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements. www.iaotp.com/award-gala.

With over 3 decades of naval service and serving over 50,000 Sea Service and family members on various boards and committees for military and Veterans benefits, Tom has certainly proven himself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field.As a dynamic results-driven leader, Tom has demonstrated success not only as Executive Director for the Fleet Reserve, but in any position he has ever held.In his scope of many responsibilities, he is also managing officer of the National Headquarters Staff, National Board of Directors, and Co-Chairs the Military Coalition, representing over 33 veteran organizations/associations, of over 3.5 M Active Duty, Reserve, Veterans and Retirees. 

Mr. Snee is a retired Navy Master Chief/Surface Warfare Specialist, and a Vietnam Veteran with over 30 years of naval service. He has testified before the House and Senate Armed Services and Veterans Affairs Congressional Committees. In 2014, he served as a panel member for the Senate Congressional Educational Reform for Educators.A champion for military and family benefits, he is a dedicated, compassionate leader, while spearheading key initiatives on their behalf for earned benefits to influence members of Congress and the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security and the Veteran Affairs.The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami stated that “Choosing Mr. Snee for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make.He is brilliant at what he does, his list of accomplishments and accolades are beyond impressive, he has given back to his community and country and is active in numerous organizations, and he was exactly what we were looking for.We know we will be seeing more outstanding things from this man and hope to spend time with him at the gala.”

Throughout his illustrious career, Tom has been active in his community and has received numerous awards, accolades’ and has been featured in several publications.For 2019 he is being considered for a feature in T.I.P (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and was named Top Executive Director of the Year for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals. He is the recipient of Strathmore and Covington Who’s Who Worldwide Leadership/Achievement in Industry and Profession; American Teachers; Business Professionals, and Executive of the Year Award.” In December 2017, he was named by Strathmore WHO’s WHO 2017, “Professional of theYear. In 2011, he was named Teacher of the Year, and inducted into the Distinguish Alumni Hall of Fame Award from the Willoughby-Eastlake Ohio Schools. He is a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, Knights of Columbus, Surface Navy Association (SNA) and National Eagle Scout Association (NESA). Mr. Sneealso serves on many boards of directors including: Excelsior College, Albany, NY; Navy Memorial Foundation, Washington, DC and; Board of Educators at Mount Vernon/Gunston Hall (historical sites). 

Aside from his successful career, Tom is also a mentor and advocate for local Boy Scout Troops and is a published author. He is the author of the book, What’s Up, Life”, by MindStir Publications of Portsmouth, NH, with a second book “You Raise Me Up”, scheduled for publishing in early summer of 2018.

Mr. Snee holds an M.Ed, in Education Leadership from George Mason University and a BS in Liberal Arts/Psychology from Excelsior College. In 2016 he was bestowed an Honorary Bachelor’s Degree for Alumni Services, from Excelsior College.

Upon graduating from high school, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy. He served as Force Master Chief, at the Navy Recruiting Command, Washington, DC; Command Master Chief, aboard the USS AMERICA (CV 66) and Navy Recruiting District, Chicago.He served as Curriculum Director/Course Supervisor for the Chief of Naval Technical Training, Millington, TN and Program Manager, for the Chief of Naval Personnel Command for Senior Enlisted development.As course manager, he was charged to develop measureable resources in joint leadership curricular studies to enhance qualitative training while reducing student attrition.Mr. Snee is a graduate of the Navy’s Senior Enlisted Academy, Naval War College at Newport, RI.

Following his Navy retirement, Mr. Snee worked at the FRA Headquarters as the Veterans Service Officer and Membership/Branch Development Coordinator. In August of 2000, he transitioned careers to become a Middle School Teacher and Administrator. With his strong education and training background, he was charged with managing curriculum development, for student assessments, appraisals, and reviews, for incoming high school freshmen.He currently serves on the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Catholic school certification, team. He taught American History, Government, Geography, Economics, and English for over 15 years. 

Looking back, Tom attributes his success to his perseverance, mentors he has had along the way, support he has had from his family and staying passionate in all his endeavors. Tom says he has been blessed.He has actually coined the phrases, “I am but a humble servant for the success of others”, “To Serve is a Virtue, to be served is a Blessing” and, “To Listen, Lead, Love, Let Go, Mentor, Coach, and then Manage”! 

Mr. Snee was married to the late Karen A. Habina for 46 years, from Willoughby, OH.The Snee’s have four children: Janet, of Springfield, VA; Denise, of Goose Greek, SC; David, a U. S. Navy Captain, Houston, TX; and Timothy, of Woodbridge, VA.They have six grandchildren and he currently resides in Burke, VA.
