WEST, TX - 05/01/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

West High School has a long tradition as being one of the premier baseball and softball programs in the state of Texas. However, the back-to-back state championship baseball team and defending state championship softball team have both long been playing in city parks.

That is until this week.

The West softball program, the current number-one ranked 3A team in the state, played its first home game in its new stadium on Tuesday, April 18, defeating Whitney, 7-0. It is the first game played on the high school campus in the program’s history. The baseball team played its first home game on April 21 and defeated McGregor, 3-2.

After a long wait, West ISD chose Symmetry Turf Sports Field Construction, one of the fastest-growing companies in the sports construction business, to build its new artificial turf fields. Bartlett Cocke based in Austin, Texas was the General Contractor for the construction of the new stadiums and Richard McDonald with Sports Design Group headed up the field design team.

“West High School has a long tradition of excellence in baseball and softball. When it came time to design and build a new baseball and softball complex, our Board of Trustees and community desired a construction contractor and stadiums which exemplified our strong work ethic and team work and desire to be champions,” said West ISD Superintendent, David Truitt. “We wanted a complex that would be second to none, and that all current and future West Trojans would be excited and proud to play on over the many future seasons. We believe West ISD is the education destination in central Texas, and we wanted to ensure our stadiums represented this belief.

“Symmetry Turf was the perfect partner for this endeavor. Their faith, mission statement, and values were a perfect match for the West community. They delivered on every promise, and we were truly a valued customer and teammate throughout the entire process. They stood behind their commitment to our student athletes and coaches every step along the way. I highly recommend Symmetry Turf for our other future projects and wholeheartedly believe other school districts would receive the same exemplary service. Symmetry Turf truly goes the second mile for their customers. They understand what it means to put the “student athletes first” in their work. I consider Symmetry Turf to be true fans and supporters of the West Trojans. I cannot thank them enough for the impact they have made on our high school and community.”

Symmetry Turf is based in Mount Pleasant, Texas and has completed a number of high-profile jobs, having installed seven NFL fields, over 35 NCAA fields, and numerous high schools across the country. Other high-profile jobs performed by the company in the state of Texas include: the Houston Texans, the University of Houston, the University of North Texas and Texas A&M-Texarkana.

Symmetry is no stranger to building baseball and softball fields having installed a new baseball field at Corsicana HS, the well-known Lake Point Baseball Complex in Emerson, Georgia, East Tennessee St. and many others. East Texas Baptist University chose Symmetry to build its new softball field for the former 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship softball program which is currently under construction along with a new state-of-the-art baseball and softball stadium complex for Melissa ISD.

“It was a tremendous honor to be chosen to build the new artificial turf fields for West ISD,” said Symmetry Turf President, Jason Bell. “West is known across the state of Texas as one the elite baseball and softball programs. West is a very special town. Their residents have a lot of pride in their community and a strong commitment to excellence. It was very personal to us to build the district the best fields possible and in time for their final games this season. Along with the brand new high school constructed by Bartlett Cocke, It’s a real showplace.”

The baseball team is currently ranked 17th in the state of Texas in 3A and will play its first home game tomorrow night. West High School head coach Cory Beckham is especially excited about getting on the new turf for the first time.

“The turf baseball fields will be a statement to the dedication West ISD has for excellence,” stated Beckham. “The knowledge and professionalism Symmetry Turf brought to the table was a true blessing. Symmetry Turf was the perfect choice to build our new ballparks. Their crews went above and beyond to make sure our student-athletes were able to play at the new field this spring. West is a traditional powerhouse in baseball and softball and these fields are significant to our community.”
