ichigan’s brutally snowy April yielded a new music video.  Smash Mob’Jason Eldridge and Frank Rogala have dropped a new single, Diggin’ In, featuring a music video showcasing Northern Michigan’s 2018 frigid snowy spring.

“I had no intention of making a music video for this song even though it is one of my favorites,” explained Rogala. “I had arrived at the northern Michigan studio (Smash Mob East) in early April.  At first, it looked like a normal spring (bare ground, a few melting dirty snow banks).  Once the snow started to fall and the lake iced over, I knew I’d be missing an opportunity if I didn’t make it happen. Now that I see this video busting out of the gate on YouTube, I’m glad I did!”

“I had just returned from a trip to a music conference in California and even though I was exhausted, I couldn’t sleep.  I called a couple of the guys in my band, Heavens Ta Betsy about coming over to do some writing.  Drew (Duffiney) and Joe (Heythaler) showed up and we knocked out the bare bones of the song,” Eldridge explained.

Diggin’ In is about keeping going in the face of unrelenting odds. “It really resonated with me,” said Rogala. “I’ve had a couple grave illnesses that took a lot of work and willpower to recover from and it just seemed to be my ‘theme song.’ After hearing the demo, I firmed up the lyrics and, of course, Jason knew just the right key for my voice - it just gelled.”

The music video makes use of spectacular natural locations like Mackinaw Mill Creek Camping’s one mile of shoreline on the Straits of Mackinac (co-owned by Rogala with his brothers), McGulpin Point on Lake Michigan, and Eldridge’s secluded Cheboygan, MI backyard.
