Shoppers looking to cash in BIG on the state’s Sales Tax Holiday taking place Friday-Sunday, August 11-13, should start Friday at San Jacinto Mall for mallwide savings, a free $10 gift card with minimum purchase, a free insulated lunch bag doorbuster, and a free $15 gift card giveaway. In addition, students who enter the mall’s “Why My School is the Best in Texas” Essay Contest have a chance to win $225 in prize money.

Free $10 Gift Card with Purchase, Friday, August 11, 10AM -3PM

As if saving 8.25% sales tax plus generous in-store sale prices isn’t enough, shoppers can score a free $10 gift card at San Jacinto Mall August 11.  Shoppers who bring their San Jacinto Mall receipts dated 8/11/17 between 10AM and 3PM totaling $125 or more to the Customer Service Center will receive a $10 gift card valid at JCPenney, Macy’s or Sears. One per customer. Must be at least 18 years old to qualify. While supplies last.

Free Insulated Lunch Bag Doorbuster, Friday, August 11, 10AM-3PM

New school year, new free insulated reusable lunch bag. The first 100 guests to visit the Customer Service Center August 11 will receive a free reusable insulated lunch bag containing additional shopping incentives and special offers from retailers. One per family. Must be at least 18 years old to qualify.

Free $15 Gift Card Giveaway, Friday, August 11, 10AM-3PM

Shoppers have a chance at being handed a free $15 JCPenney, Macy’s or Sears gift card simply for being in the right place at the right time. No purchase necessary. San Jacinto Mall will give away the gift cards at random Friday from 10AM to 3PM.  While there’s no qualification to win, shoppers exhibiting individual style or seen performing random acts of kindness (such as opening doors for others, smiling, etc.) may have a better chance of being noticed.

“The first day of the state’s Sales Tax Holiday is a great time to layer on the savings at San Jacinto Mall,” said Mary Evans, General Manager of San Jacinto Mall. “Whether you’re shopping for your kids back to school needs, stocking up on summer clearance items, or updating your wardrobe with new fall fashions, start here Friday and take advantage of our gift with purchase, doorbuster and gift card giveaway,” added Evans.

“Why My School is the Best in Texas” Essay Contest, Deadline: August 15

Students who show their school spirit with an essay describing  “Why My School is The Best in Texas” have a chance at winning $225 in prize money.  One winner will be selected in each of the following categories: Elementary School - $50 Prize; Middle School  - $75 Prize; and High School - $100 Prize. In addition to monetary prizes, winners’ essays will be displayed in the mall, published on sanjacintomall.com and in The Baytown Sun on Saturday, August 26, 2017.

Entries must be received by Tuesday, August 15, 2017, by 11:59PM to qualify.  Winners will be announced on Monday, August 21, 2017.  Students must be enrolled and attend a Texas elementary, middle or high school. Essays should be a minimum of 100 words and maximum of 1000 words and must include your name, grade level and your school name. The essay entries will be judged on creativity, content, and grade appropriate grammar and spelling. A photo may also be submitted with each essay.  Judges decisions are final. Prizes will be JCPenney, Macy’s or Sears gift cards.  Apply online via sanjacintomall.com beginning July 27, 2017, or bring or mail entries to the mall office: Attn: School Essay Contest, San Jacinto Mall, 1496 San Jacinto Mall, Baytown, TX  77521.

Sales Tax Holiday

This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is August 11-13. As in previous years, the law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend.
