Award recognizes work in helping student-athletes transition to life after college sports

GREENSBORO, NC - 10/24/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Dr. Erin Reifsteck, an Assistant Professor of kinesiology and a Research Associate with the Institute to Promote Athlete Health and Wellness at UNC Greensboro, recently received the Association for Applied Sport Psychology’s Distinguished Applied Contribution Award for her work on the Moving On! program. This award recognizes a book, video, webinar, or other resource which made a potentially significant contribution to education and/or practice in an area within the field of applied sport psychology. The Moving On! program, which was developed by Dr. Reifsteck and her research team, prepares student-athletes to make healthy transitions to life after college sports.

As Dr. Reifsteck explains, “The goal of the Moving On! program is to help student-athletes move on from the structured environment of college sports, and to keep moving by staying physically active and eating healthfully after they stop competing.”

Moving On! was funded through two NCAA research grants in 2015 and 2016. The program includes a facilitator guide, student-athlete workbook and web-based instructional tools, which support universities in adapting the program for use with their own student-athletes.

The Distinguished Applied Contribution Award includes a $250 cash award, complimentary AASP Annual Conference registration in the year of the award, and a plaque presented at the conference.
