NMTA’s Third Annual TOP Expo provides training, networking and direct access to suppliers

COLLEGE PARK, GA - 05/05/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

More than 1,000 minority trucking and logistics professionals will convene in Atlanta to learn strategies to win contracts, get access to capital, and explore the latest technology at the National Minority Trucking Association’s (NMTA) Third Annual Truckers’ Opportunity (TOP) Expo. It is known as the largest gathering of minority trucking and logistics professionals in the US.  The TOP Expo and conference takes place May 6 at the Cobb Galleria.

Minority truckers will have a variety of workshops to choose from that include how to secure corporate and federal contracts, transportation sales training, and how to bid on contracts. NMTA CEO, Kevin Reid started the event that attracts truck drivers from across the nation in 2015.  “The TOP Expo provides solutions to obstacles and challenges facing minority trucking professionals,” Reid said.  “Networking and training were once two major obstacles confronting minority truckers. This event eliminates these barriers to success and opens doors of opportunity between freight companies, suppliers, and drivers,” he said.

The annual expo is designed to ensure that minority trucking and logistics professionals have an opportunity to make strategic connections to the resources they need to build successful businesses and careers.  The TOP Expo also benefits exhibitors and sponsors by providing them direct access to minority trucking and logistics professionals.  Some of the key sponsors of the TOP Expo include:

  • Arrow Truck Sales
  • SelecTrucks
  • Penske
  • UPS
  • TA/Petro

The expo is free for registered attendees.  A special, women-only event on May 5 will kick-off the annual gathering with NMTA’s first ever TOP Women in Logistics Empowerment Conference.

In the US, there is an estimated 3.4 million truck drivers; African Americans and Hispanics make up 11.7% and 9.7%, respectively; and women make up only 5% of truck drivers, according to industry officials.

Last month, NMTA announced the creation of a historic, new company called the Minority Transportation Consortium (MTC), which was created with several former professional athletes from the NFL and NBA.  Serving small and disadvantaged, minority, trucking-related companies across the country compete for freight and logistics contracts with major corporations is part of MTC’s mission.

MTC is a third-party logistics company that will partner with minority, women, and veteran-owned companies seeking freight opportunities with corporations and private sector shippers and their associated supplier diversity programs. The organization will share a portion of its profits with all qualified carrier partners.
