Create instant highlights of Parrot Bebop drone flights on any Android and iPhone with the update to Parrot FreeFlight Pro v5.2

  PARIS & SINGAPORE - 02/28/2018 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

28 February 2018 Paris and Singapore: muvee Technologies, the pioneer and leader in automatic video editing technology, today announced the world's first telemetry-based software for automatically creating highlights of drone videos.

The Flight Director by muvee feature will debut in the new Free Flight Pro update which comes free to all owners of the highly popular Parrot Bebop, Bebop 2 and Bebop Power family of quadcopters starting 26th February 2018 on both the iTunes Appstore and Google Play Store.

Flight Director uses patent-pending technology by muvee which interprets flight sensor data to intelligently learn and select highlights of each flight segment to instantly produce professional video summaries of each flight.  Additionally, filters, transitions, speed ramp effects and motion graphics of the flight data are also added and paced to the background music provided.  "Best-of" Highlight muvees (music-videos) of 15-secs are automatically created for each flight video imported into Free Flight Pro.  Flight Director comes with 3 editing Styles: Story, Cinematic and Trailer.  Story incorporates story-telling features and is chronological in placement. Cinematic biases video choice to grand swooping wide shots; great for the great canyons and mountains.  The Trailer style mashes it up with dramatic fast-motion effects to create a Hollywood-worthy opening-sequence video; designed for scenes of urban landscape and architecture.  Every Style comes bundled with many royalty-free music tracks which complements its edits.

"Drones are flying cameras which captures our world from a perspective that mankind has always dreamed of since the days of Michelangelo. Drone videos are always awesome, but a never-ending wide-angle shot is not the most interesting to watch beyond the 30 seconds!" says Terence Swee, Founder and CEO of muvee and drone videographer who has flown and filmed in places from Havana to Bryce Canyon.  "Today, with the launch of Flight Director, we enable all Parrot Bebop pilots to get from landing to Instagramming in less time than it takes to change batteries!".

The Flight Director feature will be available FREE on both the iOS and Android versions of Parrot Free Flight Pro 5.2.  Users can unlock advanced features (a $19.99 in-app purchase) which includes capabilities to:

  • mark key "magic moments" in the flight;

  • choose their own music and start points;

  • select or exclude individual telemetry and motion graphic overlays;

  • combine multiple flight videos into a single epic aerial movie;

  • add location and flight path mapping motion overlays (requires GPS and internet connection);

  • make longer highlight videos (up to 5 minutes).

Research by the NPD Group shows that when buying smaller unmanned aircraft, consumers jumped for high-tech bells and whistles enabled by software.  Drones in the $300-$500 range sold 5 times faster if they came equipped with autopilot features, and 19 times faster if it has a follow-me function (source).  Parrot Bebop introduced auto-pilot (Flight Plan) in 2015 and auto-follow in 2016. With Flight Director, it will now have auto-edit, rounding out the most sought-after features by users in this category of consumer aerial videography drones.

In the past year alone, consumer hobbyist drone sales in the US has more than doubled, according to the NPD Group (source) and the FAA expect hobbyist drones primarily used for aerial photography to triple by 2020 to over 3.4 million units.  This is one of the fastest growing consumer photography market segment in recent history, as other traditional camera makers are getting their market share increasingly cannibalized by the advent of imaging focussed smartphones like the Moto Z, OPPO R-Series and Huawei P and Mate series, which all feature dual camera lens which produces image quality comparable with mid-range mirrorless cameras made by traditional players like Panasonic and Sony.
