Marjorie Anne Flory selected as Top Writer of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

Marjorie Anne Flory, Freelance Writer and Editor, Former Senior Editor for Reader's Digest, Copy Editor for " Made In Italy" Co-Author of "Reel Life/Real Life" and Editor of "More Cooking with Pecans" was selected as Top Writer of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession.  

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. With almost 4 decades of professional experience as a writer, editor and author, Marjorie has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, Marjorie has demonstrated success not only with her writing and editing career, but also as a researcher and library assistant.Marjorie’s impressive repertoire of prior roles included Library Assistant for the French Embassy Cultural Services in NY, and over 30 years of service to Reader’s Digest of Pleasantville, NY.During her service, Marjorie held titles as Researcher, Associate Editor and Senior Editor to Reader’s Digest of Pleasantville.She also was an editor at Fourth Write Press in Shelburne, Vermont. In 1988 Ms. Flory copy-edited “Made in Italy” and in 2003 was the editor of “More Cooking with Pecans.”Utilizing her love for movies and professional experience in social work, education and journalism, Marjorie began to co-author, along with Mary Anne Horenstein, Vicki Gershwin and Brenda Rigby, “Reel Life/Real Life”, which serves as a video guide that evaluates movies dealing with important life topics and situations. The four authors have generated more than 700 reviews of feature films, classics of early cinema, and the newest video releases.

Marjorie received her Bachelor’s Degree from Smith College in Northampton MA in 1951 and did postgraduate work from Columbia University from 1952-1953.The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami, stated “Choosing Marjorie for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make.She is talented, humble, gracious, and brilliant at what she does.We felt she would make an amazing asset to our organization and we are looking forward to meeting her at the gala.” 

Throughout her illustrious career Marjorie has received numerous awards, accolades and has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. For 2018 she is being considered for a feature in TIP (Top Industry Professional ) Magazine and for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).Also for 2018 she was selected as Top Writer of the Year by IAOTP and earned the Who’s Who Lifetime Achievement Award.Marjorie has also been featured in numerous editions of Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World, and Who’s Who of American Women.Marjorie has been active in her community as an Interpreter for the New York Road Runners Club, and she volunteered as a tutor for Volunteer Services for Children in New York City.She has been a Board Member of The Smith College Club of New York City and member of Phi Beta Kappa.

Looking back, Marjorie attributes her success to her passion for writing, her perseverance, mentors she has had along the way, and her father who was a journalist and inspired her.When she is not writing she enjoys tennis, reading, choral singing, and traveling.For the future, she will continue to grow as a professional and wants to continue to make a difference in people’s lives any way she can.
