No Longer is PB & J Your Only Option

LAS VEGAS, NV - 11/28/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

The notion of a new app doesn’t quite mean what it did 5 years ago. By now, an app exists for pretty much anything, but there is still a gaping hole in the market. A hungry hole. “Freckl” aims to fill that hole.

Freckl allows kids to trade items from their lunch with other kids in their school. They can post an image and description and browse through a marketplace of goodies that their classmates have posted. If they see something they like, they can send a trade offer to that person, who can either accept or deny the trade.

Creator Matt Rauworth thinks the app will be a big hit with the kids. “If I had this when I was in school, I probably would have built my own little trading empire,” he says. Not only is it a fun way to interact with each other, but it teaches children the basics of supply and demand, marketing, sales, and inventory. “Sometimes you have to teach kids without them knowing that they’re actually learning something.”

Nearing the end of his graphic design degree, Rauworth remembers what it was like being a picky eater. “I was pretty much limited to peanut butter and jelly because there were so many things I didn’t want to eat. With more options available to kids these days, this app just seemed like an obvious solution.”

With a very limited budget for the app’s development, several of the important features had to be left out of the initial prototype. With more funding, the app will offer an in-app chat feature so kids can “negotiate” their trade deals within the app. The food allergy checklist in their profile will notify them if they are about to trade for something that contains an ingredient that they are allergic to. Also, parents will be able to track their child’s trading activity by enabling a “Parental Control” feature within the app.

Freckl is currently available for download on Google Play and the App Store.
