LOS ANGELES-Based Trike Communications designs for Oscars stage for 2nd year

Michael Page, owner and Creative Director of Trike Communications, LLC is proud to announce his involvement with the Motion Picture Academy in collaboration with Raj Kapoor Productions to create stunning digital backdrop artwork for the 90th anniversary of the Academy Awards, which aired Sunday, March 4th, 2018 On ABC. "Based on the overall theme provided by award-winning scenic designer Derek McLane, we were chosen to design several dazzling screens to be used to highlight specific categories," says Page. "The 100% digital artwork is created to give an impression of an elaborate 3-dimensional set, something that would not be possible if the set were actually built. These backdrops are accented by several physical elements which are designed to be moved about the stage.”

Fans watching the live, televised performance were treated to a quintessential example of Page's complex and in-depth digital matte-painting capabilities. He draws inspiration for his work by immersing himself in the theme he is designing for, and frequently uses elements taken directly from his surroundings. Fans of historic architecture were thrilled to see the marble columns and staircase from Douglas, Arizona's Gadsden Hotel make an appearance in a breathtaking Amadeus-inspired movie palace scene. Page’s work provided dramatic impact to all the following award presentations: Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Hair and Makeup, Best Costume Design, Best Foreign Language Film, Best Animated Short, Best Animated Feature, a live performance of “Mystery of Love,” (nominated for best song), and the exciting finale…Best Picture!

Page's digital projections were magically brought to life by animation director Mark Allen of Allucinari, Inc. and framed by a stunning proscenium –the upper, arched structure surrounding the stage–, designed by McLane, featuring 45 million Swarovski crystals, creating a geode-like effect. “The theme is all about light and reflectivity,” McLane said in an interview with Variety about 10 days before the ceremony.

"and the combined efforts of this creative team ensured that viewers would get an unprecedented experience that lives up to the Oscars' legacy.”

Hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, The 90th Oscars were held on Sunday, March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and was broadcast live on the ABC Television Network at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
