Let’s Get It On - The Marvin Gaye Experience Comes to the South Bay

What’s Going On? A live tribute to one of the pioneers of soul music, Marvin Gaye.

LOS ANGELES, CA - 03/15/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET) — What’s Going On: The Marvin Gaye Experience, a live tribute to a legendary artist, is coming to the James R. Armstrong Theatre on Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 8:00 pm.  The show will feature his early solo hits, classic duets, and crowd-pleasing favorites sung by the new voice of American soul, Brian Owens.

In 2013, Brian Owens created The Marvin Gaye Experience because he felt a deep appreciation for the musician’s talent, versatility, and the “depth of his discography”.   Bringing Marvin Gaye’s music back to the stage was about “preservation; it’s a matter of upholding the tradition of true soul music that is so desperately needed in our culture today,” Brian said.

This show is more than simply an impersonation of famous, beloved songs.  It’s an homage to one of the most influential musicians of all time, a tribute to the life and legendary works of an artist who died too young –  and to soul music as a whole

Brian Owens was born and raised near St. Louis, Missouri.  He currently lives in Ferguson, Missouri, and he takes great pride in being a positive force in his community.  Brian is the Artist In Residence at the St. Louis Symphony where he oversees the IN UNISON Church and Mentoring program.  He started the charitable initiative L.I.F.E. (Leadership, Innovation, Faith, and Excellence) Cultural and Performing Arts as a way to connect local children to the arts when they might have no other means to do so.

Full of passion for music and helping his community, Brian Owens has definitely earned the moniker “the second coming of Marvin Gaye”.  He believes that music transcends boundaries and connects people.

“To me, it’s all American,” Brian says.  “When people ask me what I am, I say I’m an American soul singer.  It’s American soul.”

Tickets for the performance on March 25, 2017, at 8:00 pm, range from $20-$30 and limited seating is still available.  Purchase tickets at the James R. Armstrong Theatre box office located at 3330 Civic Center Drive N, Torrance, CA 90503, by calling (310) 781-7171, or online here.
