GRAYSON HUGH receives “Top Soul Man for Our Time” at ROCK JUSTICE AWARDS™

LOS ANGELES, CA - 06/07/2018 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Grayson Hugh was honored as “Top Soul Man for Our Time” at the ROCK JUSTICE AWARDS™ in recognition for his decades of soulful performance, songwriting, album releases and jaw-dropping, barnstorming piano playing.

Hugh, along with singer Polly Messer, completed a raucous 90-minute set upon a nine-foot concert grand piano before adoring West Coast fans who had a chance to connect again with their favorite artist.

“Grayson Hugh demonstrates a freewheeling versatility in Soul, R&B, and rock ‘n roll,” says Bennett Zimmerman, founder of the ROCK JUSTICE AWARDS™ Concert Series. “Grayson’s current albums are just as strong and satisfying as the ones he debuted with on the scene during the 1980s. Grayson Hugh is a true soul master.”

Discovered in an elevator on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Grayson signed with RCA Records, and his 1988 debut album, “Blind To Reason,” received rave reviews and sold over 400,000 units in the USA and went Gold in Australia.

Grayson’s second album, “Road to Freedom” (MCA 1992), was called one of 1992’s Top Ten Albums by Billboard Magazine and contained songs that were featured in the Oscar-winning films “Thelma and Louise” and “Fried Green Tomatoes.”

Hugh went on to become a Professor of Songwriting at the Berklee School of Music before returning to recording.

In 2010, Grayson recorded his successful comeback album “An American Record” and then “Back To The Soul” in 2015, which made it onto the Ballot for a 2015 Grammy in the Best Americana Album category.

Zimmerman founded the AWARDS after decades of being a music fan, industry executive, DJ and avid reader of the rock and roll press. The Awards aim to recognize, validate and congratulate key artists of our time for the vital impact of their work during the rock 'n roll era. This is a fun series. Yet it is as important as art itself and in validating real people with real journeys that deserve recognition, validation and kindness.

The artists awarded often have achieved great acclaim and commercial success, yet some key part of their story requires further illumination. Some had huge careers and have maintained a relationship with their audiences through live performance and/or current releases that continue to have a vital impact on the lives of their listeners.

Operating below the mainstream media and with an elephant-like memory of artist careers from their beginning until today, Zimmerman and Awards contributors are observers and consumers of rock and roll and consider the songs and artists to be a key part of their lives.

The ROCK JUSTICE AWARDS™ Concert Series is produced by The Fourth Way World Productions. Next up in the series will be an even celebrating the music and career of John Ford Coley on June 23, 2018. The red-carpet event will be again held at the legendary Village Studios, recording home to Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan, Lady Gaga, and many others.
