Dr. Paul Davis was selected as Top Endocrine Pharmacologist by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)

Paul J. Davis, M.D., Professor of Medicine at Albany Medical College and Adjunct Professor of Pharmacy at the Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences was recently selected as Top Endocrine Pharmacologist for 2018 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for his outstanding leadership and commitment to the profession. 

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. He and his colleagues discovered the cell surface receptor for thyroid hormone that is linked to cancer cell proliferation and invasiveness and to cancer-relevant blood vessel formation.They have founded a pharmaceutical company to exploit this receptor.More than 20 other laboratories are pursuing this receptor for tumor imaging and drug delivery.In addition to his research career, Dr. Davis has served as Chair, Department of Medicine, Albany Medical College and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Research at the Medical College.Positions he has held at other institutions include Vice-Chair and Professor, Department of Medicine at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine and Chief, Medical Service, at the Veterans Admonistration Medical Center in Buffalo, and Head, Endocrinology Division, Department of Medicine, Baltimore City Hospitals and Associate Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.He has served on the Board of Directors of the American Board of Internal Medicine, as President of the American Thyroid Association and President of the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians.He has been a consultant to the Chernobyl TissueBank of the European Commission (EU) and is Co-Head of the Endocrinology and Diabetes Section of the Faculty of 1000 Medicine.For a number of years, he served on the Board of Scientific Counselors of the National Institute on Aging (NIH) and on a number of VA Merit Review Board committees.

Dr. Davis received his B.A from Westminster College from which he graduated magna cum laude, and he received his MD from Harvard University from which he graduated cum laude.He obtained his Internal Medicine residency training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and his endocrine and research training at the NIH.The President of IAOTP, Stephanie Cirami stated that “Choosing Dr. Davis for this award was an easy decision for our panel to make.He is brilliant, his list of accomplishments and accolades are beyond impressive, he is active in numerous organizations and affiliations, he was exactly what we were looking for.We know we will be seeing more outstanding things from this man and hope to spend time with him at the gala.”

Throughout his career, Dr. Davis has been active in his community and recognized worldwide for his outstanding leadership and commitment in the fields of Endocrinology and Pharmacology. He has received many awards, accolades and has been featured in numerous publications multiple years in a row such as Marquis Who’s Who, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Who’s Who in the East, and Who’s Who in the World.He has served as a Trustee of his undergraduate college for fifteen years.For 2019, Dr. Davis is being considered to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine and for the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).For 2018 he was selected as Top Endocrine Pharmacologist of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

Dr. Davis is also a sought after lecturer, speaker, an editor and contributor to the medical literature.He is co-author of 275 research publications and 40 textbook chapters and has co-edited four textbooks.He has been a member of the editorial boards of eight journals and has served as Editor of three of these publications.

Looking back, Dr. Davis attributes his success to the mentors he has had along the way and to an ability to stay passionate in all of his endeavors.Dr. Davis says he has been blessed, he loves doing what he is doing, and feels this is just the beginning.When he is not working Dr. Davis enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
