With over two decades experience, Dr. Bannen is board certified and specializes in medical oncology. Treatments include a wide range of conditions, such as many forms of cancer, leukemia, anemia, and Hodgkin’s disease. Dr. Bannen’s practices at Community Hematology/Oncology with offices in Olney, Potomac and Gaithersburg, Maryland.  He is affiliated with MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Garrett Park, MD; Adventist Healthcare Shady Grove Medical Center in Rockville, MD; and Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring, MD.

Dr. Bannen received his medical degree from University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in 1996 and completed his internal medicine residency at University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 1999. He then went on to complete his fellowship at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital 2003. Dr. Bannen also holds professional memberships with the American College of Physicians and the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
