Dr. Kristina Zakhary selected as Top Facial Surgeon of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP).

Dr. Kristina Zakhary, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgeon, with a Special Focus in Facial Cosmetic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, and Assistant Clinical Professor at the Department of Surgery, University of Calgary, was selected as Top Facial Surgeon of the Year by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP.) 

While inclusion into the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in their chosen field, as well as other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees are invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of 2017 for a night to honor each recipient’s achievements.

With almost 2 decades of professional experience in the Facial Cosmetic Surgery Industry, Dr. Zakhary has certainly proven herself as an accomplished professional and expert in the field. As a dynamic, results-driven leader, she has demonstrated success not only honing her expertise in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery but has also mastered  state of the art Facial Cosmetic Surgery techniques and combines unique skills of both a specialized facial surgeon and an artist to improve the health and confidence of her patients.  Her expertise include: Rhinoplasty, Facelift, Forehead Lift Surgeries, Blepharoplasty (eyelid tuck), Otoplasty (ear tuck), Earlobe Surgery, Facial Wrinkle and Scar treatments, and Facial Cosmetic and Reconstructive Surgery.

Holding both a successful private and public practice in Alberta, Canada, Dr. Zakhary is the first woman in Calgary to be certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the first woman elected to be the Western Canadian representative on the Board of the Canadian Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. 

Dr. Zakhary knew from a young age that she wanted to become a Doctor.  She was only 17 years old when she entered Medical School, having been accepted into a very competitive fast track program at McGill University.  She received both her Medical Degree and Master’s Degree in coordination with the department of Plastic Surgery from McGill University and she completed her Fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the University of Toronto.  After practicing several years in the public health sector, Dr. Zakhary decided to compliment her practice in the public sector by opening a private practice specializing in cosmetic surgery while continuing her public practice at the Calgary Health Region.  Today, Dr. Zakhary balances her time between the two practices, while also taking a teaching role in the University of Calgary’s department of Surgery, where she has been a Clinical Assistant Professor since 2011.

Throughout her illustrious career, Dr. Zakhary has received numerous awards, accolades and has been a sought-after guest speaker and co-author on several published research papers about facial plastic surgery, nationally and internationally.  She has been recognized worldwide for her outstanding leadership and advancement in the healthcare industry.  She is also regularly invited as a visiting surgeon internationally, teaching other surgeons specialized techniques in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. She is being considered for the 2018 Top Female Executive Award by the International Association of Top Professionals, and she is also being considered for an article in T.I.P (Top Industry Professional) Magazine.  In 2017, Dr. Zakhary was selected as Top Facial Surgeon of the Year by IAOTP.  In 2014 she was inducted into Top 40 under 40 by Avenue Calgary.  Dr. Zakhary is an associate staff member of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Calgary, Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, Member of the Alberta Medical Association and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and Alberta.

Looking back, Dr. Zakhary attributes her success for her passion for helping people feel good both on the inside and out, to the tremendous support and lifelong encouragement from her parents and family.  She feels she has been blessed; she loves doing what she is doing and feels this is just the beginning. As for the future, she plans to continue to expand her practices and trainings, and continue to make a positive difference in people’s lives anyway that she can.
