With nearly five decades of achievements in his specialty, Dr. Babb serves patients at East Carolina Heart Institute at ECU East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, North Carolina, where he also acts as Clinical Professor in the Division of Cardiology.

Dr. Babb’s medical career began as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Cardiologist at The Pennsylvania State University Hershey Medical Center in 1972. This led him to complete an angioplasty course with Dr. Andreas Gruentzig in Zurich, Switzerland. Dr. Andreas Gruentzig is recognized as the father of coronary angioplasty. As a result, Dr. Babb conducted the first coronary angioplasty at Hershey in 1981. He also performed the first coronary angioplasty in the state of Connecticut upon embracing his role as Chief of Cardiology at The Bridgeport Hospital (1980-1995). 

Dr. Babb joined The East Carolina University School of Medicine in 1995 as Professor of Medicine and Cardiologist. Earlier in his career, he was Program Director for the Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship and the Interventional Cardiology Fellowship, and Director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratories at East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine. 

In 1966 Dr. Babb graduated John Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore Maryland. He completed an internship and residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts (1966-1968)

A veteran, Dr. Babb served in the U.S. Army medical Corps, having served in Vietnam and Walter Reed Hospital (1968-1970), followed by anInterventional Cardiology Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts (1970-1972).

Dr. Babb is certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. To stay abreast of the advances in his field he has earned the coveted titles of Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions and Fellow of the Council for Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association.

Among the many awards bestowed to Dr. Babb, he is a Distinguished Service Awardee of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (2005), Past President of the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, Past Governor of the American College of Cardiology from Connecticut and North Carolina, as well as Master of the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (2014). His dedication to Interventional Cardiology and commitment to excellence in patient care have earned him the his title  'Patient Preferred Physician'. 

When he is not treating patients, Dr. Babb enjoys spending time with his family and traveling.
