Dr. Glenn S. Ekblad, DO, Driector of Preventive Medicine for Western Michigan University, School of Medicine has been named Top Physician of the Year in Preventive Medicine for 2016-2017 by the International Association Of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!

Dr. Glenn S. Ekblad DO, Director of Preventive Medicine for Western Michigan University, School of Medicine has been named "Top Physician of the Year in Preventive Medicine" for 2016-2017 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP)!  

While inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself, only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities.  All honorees will be invited to attend the IAOTP’s annual award gala at the end of this year for a night to honor their achievements.

With over 35 years of practicing preventive medicine,  Dr. Ekblad has certainly proved himself as an accomplished professional and leader in the healthcare industry. He is a Board Certified Emergency physician, Medical Director at West Michigan AirCare, a critical EMS helicopter transport company  and has also been a Flight Surgeon with the USAFR for over 25 years.   Dr. Ekblad also holds the title of Director of Preventive Medicine at Western University.  His day to day responsibilities at Western Michigan University include Development of the Preventive Medicine curriculum and teaching that curriculum. 

Dr. Ekblad is a candidate for his MPH degree at George Washington University, with a graduation date in 2018.  In 1990 he completed his Anesthesiology Residency Program from the University of Michigan; 1984 certified in Aerospace Medicine-School of Aerospace Medicine, United States Air Force; 1980 received his Doctor of Osteopathy-Michigan State University; 1977 received MSN, Psychiatric Nursing from Yale University; and in 1975 received his Bachelor of Science & BSN, Psychology and Nursing from the University of Utah.

Dr. Ekblad has been recognized worldwide for his many accomplishments and remains active with many affiliations.  He is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians; a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and is a Board Certified physician by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.  He was awarded the Certified Emergency Physician of the Year; Vietnam Military Awards; Reserved Surgeon of the Year in 1983; Teaching awards in 2012, 2013, "Professional of the Year in Preventive Medicine" from Marquis Who's Who in 2014, and "Outstanding Member of the Year" from Bristol Publishing in 2015.  Dr. Ekblad has presented at numerous seminars and conferences and has also published numerous research papers that have been later presented at the ASEP Scientific Convention.

Looking back Dr. Ekblad attributes his success to his strong work ethic and passion for what he does. When he is not working he enjoys physical fitness, gardening and pruning.  He is looking forward to what the future has in store and wants to continue to make a difference in the world.
