Do the Bang Thing Salon Fights Confidence Crisis In Young Girls, Led by Eye-Opening Video Featuring Real Women Frankly Sharing Their Personal Stories and Experiences

Do the Bang Thing Salon today revealed that their Confidence Campaign, which donates a portion of proceeds of every service done to Girls Inc., was proving highly successful. On July 12, 2018, the campaign released a video (shown below) which highlighted the importance of the campaign in helping young girls to retain their self-confidence for a happy and successful adult life. 

The video features a cast of real girls and women talking about how feelings of inadequacy and not being able to meet exceptionally high standards has affected their lives.

“It’s not easy being a girl, or even a woman, in the 21st century. Women might want it all, but at the same time, we’ve also placed enormous pressure on ourselves to do the impossible with it: to be perfect. In doing so, they make things so hard for themselves that their self-confidence just goes,” said Toby Adams, owner of Denver’s Do the Bang Thing Salon.

“More than this, social media, along with glossy, photoshopped model images, are giving girls as young as eight that same pressure. The result has been an absolute slump in confidence that’s affecting their ability to pursue their dreams, speak out, and express their own valuable contributions to the communities they live in. It’s time to fight back and let girls grow into the amazingly confident people they are, no matter who they are!”

As a salon owner, Adams is only too familiar with clients coming in complaining about their looks, saying that many come in not just for a pampering and styling session, but also for a pick-me-up and advice on how to change things about their looks. Now, it’s not just adult women asking for advice, but also young girls, feeling the pressures of social media build up.

These women aren’t alone. In fact, several studies in the past decade have revealed that women across America are suffering from a crisis of confidence. Time magazine revealed that between the ages of eight and fourteen, girls’ confidence dropped as much as 30% - and in some cases, never fully recovered.

One of the biggest areas for this confidence drain and resulting gap is an internal focus on being “perfect” in all areas of their life. Most notably, this affects feelings of attractiveness, with a Glamour study revealing that an incredible 97% of women had experienced “hateful” self-images of their body in the course of their life.

“Many young girls today are suffering from a real crisis of self-confidence – that feeling of just not being ‘good enough’ – and worse, those feelings can carry on long into adulthood,” added Adams. “No more: we’re building a community of strong and confident women, and we ask you to join us for a better future for everyone.”
