TEMECULA, CALIFORNIA - 05/23/2018 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

The democrat candidate for the US Congress from the 42nd Congressional District of California, Dr. Norman Quintero did not have any other choice than to file a lawsuit in the California Riverside County Court against the Temecula city mayor, Math Rahn. This action has been taken in response to the decision of the city hall to illegally retain the deposit money for a non-political event held on April 28, 2018, in the amphitheater of Temecula.

For the event titled “Pray for America,” all the necessary permissions were obtained. The event saw the participation of 223 religious leaders of all denominations. The purpose of the meeting was to pray in unison for our nation. Trucks containing groceries were available such that food supplies could be carried to the churches of the attendees.

The Press Enterprise highlighted the event in its edition of April 26, two days prior to the event. This provoked the wrath of the mayor, and he threatened to cancel the event if any food was distributed in the city. The city has adopted a public policy of not providing food to the homeless, thereby forcing them to leave the city. Indeed, the police force confronts them on their patrols, threatening to arrest them and export them to neighboring cities. It is time to fix the homelessness crisis in our cities, not by pushing them away, but by providing real alternatives to help each one of our homeless to get back in their feet.

Dr. Norman Quintero also reported that not only did the city officials communicate with him to let him know that he cannot distribute food during the event, but also that Officer H. Garcia threatened to arrest him if he did otherwise. In addition, on the day of the event, the director of the amphitheater and city official, Gwen Wilcox, asked him to leave the facility for having violated the city ordinance. It was clear that no food was distributed during the event, as everything remained in the trucks. While preaching the Word, more than 10 police cars came to the venue of the event to arrest Dr. Quintero. However, Bishop Juan Carlos Méndez of Churches in Action persuaded the police not to perform the arrest.

Till this day, despite the fact that no provision of the permit was violated, the Mayor has refused to return the deposit. In the lawsuit filed, Dr. Norman Quintero has demanded that the deposit be returned in its entirety, as there is no basis or cause to retain it.

Dr. Norman Quintero has been providing food and support services to the homeless, veterans, and low-income families for more than 20 years.
