PITTSBURGH, PA - 07/25/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Pittsburgh-based entrepreneur and BackerNation CEO Jay Resio will be will be one of five speakers to discuss “New Ideas and Applications in Health IT Companies” at Becker’s Second Annual Healthcare Review Conference.

Drawing on 20 years of leading strategic initiatives where results-driven marketing converged with revolutionary technology and digital user experiences, Resio’s background and insight will be a valuable contribution to the panel discussion.  He was an early founding member of a company that merged artificial intelligence and streaming video to create simulated conversations and online patient engagement experiences to increase positive patient outcomes across a variety of verticals in healthcare.

Most recently, Resio was inspired from personal adversity to launch BackerNation, a recommendation, discovery and coaching app for back pain, spine disorders and degenerative disc disease sufferers.

After severely herniating a disc in his back, Resio had to wait almost 8 months before surgery was approved.  The period of time leading up to surgery was extremely painful, challenging and escalated to being unable to walk.  The eventual surgery was a success, however the post-op physical therapy Resio received was severely inadequate – leading to an even worse herniation on the same disc and a second (emergency) surgery in only a nine-month span.

Following the second surgery, Resio vowed to take recovery into his own hands.  “There were significant missteps in my recovery and rehab after my first surgery. I completely relied on others and ultimately I paid the price for their inferior guidance.”

Resio spent every minute he could after his second surgery becoming a student of all things joints, nerves, muscles, body and mind.  He developed a strategic plan of action that focused on rebuilding his himself from the ground up, starting with a dedicated 3-month effort to re-align his hip joints, the biggest problem that arose from his body being misaligned for almost a year.  He recruited a well-rounded base of healthcare service providers (physical therapist, chiropractor and massage therapist), however this time he was the one that was leading the recovery strategy with their assistance.

While he was doing this out of personal necessity, he soon realized this approach combined with innovative technology, business intelligence and data processing could benefit the masses suffering from back issues.  BackerNation was born out of this experience.

“BackerNation’s unrelenting mission is to empower individuals with back and spine issues to have the resources and support they need to live comfortable, productive and enjoyable lives,” Resio said.

Becker’s Hospital Review will host the second annual CIO/HIT + Revenue Cycle Conference at the Fairmont in Chicago. Speakers alongside Resio include; Bruce Brandes of Marin Ventures and Lucro, Tony Gruebl of Think Systems, Inc., Mike Doyle of FACHE, of QPID Health, Oren Gavriely of BeatMed, Inc. and the session will be moderated by Max Green of Becker’s Healthcare.

The conference features 175 total speakers, 95 hospital and health system CIO, CMIO and revenue cycle executive speakers. A keynote panel will be a highlight event which includes NCAA basketball coach, Bob Knight, and NFL player, head coach and broadcaster, Mike Ditka.
