PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP

The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20500

Dear President Trump:

I am a Virginia businessman and I serve as the President of the American Hindu Coalition, a nonprofit advocacy organization, which promotes the shared commitment of American Hindus for a more prosperous, safer, and a stronger America.  Our organization believes that American Hindus are the spectacular beneficiaries of the American Dream.  As such, we are committed to ensuring that the greatness of America can be enjoyed by the next generation of Americans.

I am writing to express our organization’s solidarity with your “Make America Great Again” agenda.   In addition, we wish to voice our strong support for your nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the United States Supreme Court.

We are following a record number of American Hindus nationwide who have reached out to their home state Senators urging them to cast a vote in favor of confirming Judge Gorsuch.  American Hindus are impressed by the clarity of Judge Gorsuch’s conviction as an Originalist with respect to the US constitution, which requires a judge to apply the law rather than their own individual policy preferences, including one’s personal religious beliefs in jurisprudence.  Hindu Americans further concur with Judge Gorsuch’s skepticism of legislating from the bench: “it is (or should be) emphatically our job to apply, not rewrite, the law enacted by the people’s representatives. Indeed, a judge who likes every result he reaches is very likely a bad judge, reaching for results he prefers rather than those the law compels.”

Neal Katyal, a Hindu American who calls himself a liberal and who served as President Obama’s Solicitor General, wrote in favor of Senate confirmation of Judge Gorsuch; Mr. Katyal wrote in a New York Times opinion piece: “Right about now, the public could use some reassurance that no matter how chaotic our politics become, the members of the Supreme Court will uphold the oath they must take: to “administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich.”  The American Hindu Coalition agrees.   Information on the American Hindu Coalition is available on our web site: www.americanhinducoalition.com

Thank you for your kind attention.

Sincerely,

Harsh Sethi
