A New York City County Committee Member Launches User Friendly Website for First Time Accessibility to Community Politics

The purpose of the NYC County Committee is to contribute to the creation of the Democratic party’s unified platform, organize local neighborhoods, choose local judicial candidates, select the Democratic Party’s nominees in special elections, and more. Democrats who want to get involved are currently unaware of the existence of such body and its importance in framing the local party platform. About 80% of the county committee seats are unfilled which undermines broad participation in local decision making.

The goal of the Outraged Democrat website is to simplify the complicated petitioning process that dates back to the 1920s. The Outraged Democrat website will guide each candidate through the process and provide them with a PDF form of the petition to print at home. This website makes the process accessible for those who want to get involved in politics at a local level.

Theo Chino, a founder of the movement and member of the New York City County Committee, believes participation in politics should be transparent. He states, “The New York County Democratic Party has made giant strides towards this goal but has not done the required outreach work to fill the County Committee with active democrats that otherwise want to be engaged. There are so many talented people who are enraged by what they are seeing and want to contribute to local politics that are being pushed aside as incompetent because archaic leadership believes that good politicians are those who quietly wait their turn on the sidelines. The time for this thinking is over, as we can see by the massive upset accomplished by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.”

The website https://OutragedDems.NYC recently launched in anticipation of the Brooklyn, Queens and The Bronx County Committee Elections on September 13th, 2018. Release for coverage of Manhattan and Staten Island is expected in June 2019, for the election in September 2019. Its primary goal is to encourage and educate citizens excited to take part in the New York City County Committee. Outraged Dems wants to function as the user-friendly handbook about the procedures that need to be followed to allow all those who want to a chance to participate.
