Buying a house is probably one of the most important investments we make in our life. There is a lot of money involved, so we cannot just blindly sign the papers and get the keys to our dream house. That's why we need a Real Estate Lawyer to review all the documents and make sure the home buying process goes smoothly.

Jonathan Griffiths and Murray A Scott are Three Best Rated® Award-winning Real Estate Lawyers in Ontario. Three Best Rated® is a multi-national ranking website that lists the top three local businesses, doctors, restaurants, etc., in every city. The experts follow a 50-point inspection process to evaluate each business, leaving no stone unturned.

So, how did they acquire this title? The pros themselves share their journey.

Jonathan Griffiths:

He began his career as a real estate agent when he was 19. He worked as a real estate agent while he was studying in University and Law School. When he was called to the bar, he got an offer from the Ontario Real Estate Association to teach their real property law course. He was 25 at that time. He was teaching experienced and successful agents and was usually the youngest person in the classroom.

His law practice grew rapidly, and in 1981, he founded his own law firm, Griffiths Professional Corporation. "My practice is my hobby as well as my work," Johnathan says. Johnathan believes communication is really essential. He always answers to his clients wherever he is, and freely gives out his phone number to everyone.

"We always put our clients first and do our very best to look after them in the best possible way," he says. Over the years, they have built an excellent knowledge base and thanks to the large number of skilled staff, they pay proper attention to each client and to deal with matters quickly. They have three offices close to major highways, making it easier for their clients to reach them.

His son, Malcolm, followed his footsteps and is now working with him. "I am also very fortunate to have my son Malcolm working with me, which creates an ideal succession plan and guarantees clients peace of mind as far as the durability and longevity of their relationship with the firm is concerned," he explains. He believes this is particularly important for clients where wills and estates are concerned.

Johnathan further explains how real estate lawyers are different from other types of lawyers. "Unlike litigation, family and criminal lawyers, who practice in a confrontational manner, Real estate lawyers practice in a collaborative manner," he says, "We are all working towards a common goal of closing transactions for our clients."

The practice of real estate all becomes more and more complex each year with increasing government regulation. So it becomes increasingly important for clients to retain lawyers who concentrate on real estate to look after their real estate law needs.

A short conversation was enough to make us understand just how much knowledge he possesses in this field. This is what got them a place in 2020 Three Best Rated listing as one of the top-rated Real Estate Lawyers in Toronto, ON.

Murray A Scott:

Murray became a real estate lawyer to help people resolve their legal problems and to achieve their aspirations. He was called to the Ontario bar in 1977 and shortly thereafter joined the law firm now known as CONROY SCOTT LLP, a firm founded in 1958 upon principles of supporting and advising individuals. As a partner of the firm, Murray maintains an active solicitor’s practice in real estate and other areas of law.

Their real estate team is passionate about providing the highest level of service to their clients. "We offer a personable experience and go the extra lengths to ensure our clients have the most well-informed and stress-free transactions possible," Murray explains.

They prioritize guiding their clients through every step along the way and to promptly answer any questions or concerns they may have relating to their real estate transactions.

"Our team is experienced in taking on challenging files, for example: conversion in Northern Ontario of Texaco assets to ESSO, the creation of Sudbury Regional Hospital (now known as Health Sciences North), and more recently creation of Greater Sudbury’s first common elements condominium corporation" he says.

Murray likes dealing with real estate transactions. "There is great satisfaction in guiding clients through the purchase of their first home, the eventual sale of that home, and the purchase of another home, as their lives and circumstances change. One of the best parts of this job is handing over the keys to a happy new homeowner," he smiles.

He also has some advice for the first time home-buyers. "Buying a home will likely be the largest and most important purchase in a person’s life and having a lawyer on your team who is knowledgeable and experienced can help protect the Buyer’s investment," he says.

Lawyers can advise clients on the advantages and limitations of title insurance as well as the different options in choosing one insurer over another.

"An experienced real estate lawyer will do "behind the scenes" work to protect a client’s investment and keep the client updated throughout the process so that the client can focus on packing and moving," he explains.

In addition to helping clients, Murray says his legal work allowed him to share with many like-minded individuals the objectives of fostering post-secondary education during his six years on the Board of Governors of Cambrian College and economic development in Northern Ontario through his nineteen years on the Board of Directors of Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation. Now, his goal is to ensure that younger lawyers have the same opportunities he had in a firm that encourages collaboration and a pleasurable and enjoyable setting.

Murray genuinely enjoys working with people to turn their dreams into reality. His commitment and expertise is what scored him a place in Three Best Rated® as one of the top-rated Real Estate Lawyers in Sudbury, ON.
