2016 is the Year of the Plus Size Woman and now there is a Mobile App to Connect Them to Each Other

2016 is turning out to be the “Year of the Plus-Size Woman” as a result of Plus Size Model, Ashley Graham gracing the cover of Sports Illustrated Magazine, serving as a correspondent during the Miss USA Pageant and most recently having a Barbie Doll created with “curves”. According to the NPD Group, the plus-size apparel market rose by 17 percent to $20.4 billion in 2016, from $17.4 billion in 2013.  And Design Educator, Author and Emmy-winning co-host of “Project Runway” Tim Gunn took the design world by storm when he put the design world on “blast” for not making clothing for the plus size woman even though she represents over 100 million.  

To unite the plus-size community with a central information source, The Plus Size Events App was creatively designed and developed to address the growing need to empower plus-size women all over the world and enhance an amazing supportive community that combats fat shaming and size discrimination. The mobile app serves as an access point to share details and information about world-wide events geared towards the plus-size woman. The app also features a PLUS Spotlight section that highlights industry influencers. And the Plus Size News tab provides up to the minute industry news, shopping and more.

As an advocate for the plus-size community, for the past 19 years since forming her first business - The Voluptuous Woman Company in 1997, Gigi Biggins is the brain child behind the development of the new app.  Gigi states “the plus-size industry has evolved in almost two decades, however, I found that we needed a central point to connect all of the women who are part of this community with empowering and uplifting events and projects that go unnoticed.” Out of this desire to serve her community the Plus Size Events App was born.
