DENVER, CO - 06/19/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

After traveling the world to tell the stories about the origins and incantations of food, chef and activist Daniel Klein and filmmaker Mirra Fine of The Perennial Plate have set their sites (and taste buds) on the Centennial State. Beginning in June, the two-time James Beard Award winning series are journeying around Colorado, like culinary artists in residence, in search of unique stories about food sustainability, culture, history and creativity.

Local heritage and authentic interactions inspired by agriculture make for a bountiful culinary culture. While on tour for 2 months in Colorado to kick off Season 3, Daniel and Mirra, like all visitors, will have the chance to harvest, sheer, distill, brew, hunt, forage, butcher, cook and create. Their experience and stories will be documented on a variety of platforms, from their Perennial Plate blog to Instagram to Facebook to Twitter. They will engage with farmers and ranchers, hunters, chefs, gatherers, artists, historians and general enthusiasts in order to create a series of 10 short films, ranging from 2-15 minutes in length, each highlighting socially responsible and culinary discoveries across the state.

Their first of 10 short films was just released featuring  Keri Brandt--gender studies professor and rancher, vegetarian turned cowgirl: https://www.theperennialplate.com/episodes/2016/06/episode-150-for-land-and-for-animals/

Other stories will include:

- Bessie White, founder of the Cortez farmers market 40+ years ago, only missed one Saturday.  Grows fruit and makes pies all summer from her fruit
- Grant Coffey, archaelogist at Crow Canyon and bean farmer, farming the same beans from AD 700 ruins of that era on his father's property
- Zero waste in Boulder and the A1 Organics facility that turns Colorado compost into energy
- Tomten farm in Telluride, off the grid farm at 9,000 feet that also organizes the composting program at Telluride Bluegrass Festival
- Fishing on the Gunnison and the Blue River with activists and lawyers about water rights
- Latino immigrants who work at other people's ranches, but still maintain their own on weekends, selling at the farmers market and growing their own food
- Turtle Lake Refuge: wild foods CSA in Durango
- Vegan soul food chef in Denver
- Food access activist in Denver
