Thailand Film Office Confirms 4,470 Foreign Productions Worth $380 Million USD Have Filmed in Thailand Since 2010

Thailand Film Office has Revealed the Significant Impact that 4,470 Foreign Film Productions Have Had on the Economy of Thailand in Generating Revenues of $380 Million USD in Less Than 6 years

Today, Thailand Film Office within the Department of Tourism of the Government of Thailand has confirmed that 4,470 foreign productions since 2010 have positively impacted the economy of Thailand to the tune of $380 Million USD.

The extensive range of foreign film productions from January 2010 to September 2016 was across a spectrum of disciplines including feature films, T.V. series’, dramas, game shows and reality shows, documentaries, music videos and advertisements. The countries represented during this time include the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, India, other countries in Europe and others.

Already, from January to October 2016, a total of 643 foreign productions have filmed in Thailand creating revenues of $50.84 Million USD. In all, 41 of these professional film crews traveled from the United States, 31 from the United Kingdom, 30 from Australia, 54 from China, 17 from Hong Kong, 4 from Taiwan, 104 from Japan, 31 from Korea, 99 from India, 78 from other countries in Europe and 154 others.

“The publication of these figures is a clear demonstration to the world of the enormous contribution that Thailand is making to Hollywood and the international film, television, and advertising industries,” explained, Wannasiri Morakul, Director-General, Department of Tourism. In tandem with our prominent global film industry roadshow appearances in the United States and the United Kingdom this year, 2017 is gearing up to be a record-breaking year for high-calibre foreign film productions in Thailand.”

In order to give more choice to worldwide movie producers, Thailand Film Office would like to offer a Thailand Tourism Development Cluster of 8 strategic location blocks identified to promote Thailand as a premier foreign film haven. These include:

1. Lanna Cluster (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, and Phayao).

2. South Eastern Cluster (Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani).

3. Active Beach Cluster (Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat).

4. Royal Coast Cluster (Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, and Ranong).

5. Andaman Cluster (Phuket, Krabi, Phang Nga, Trang, and Satun).

6. Cultural World Heritage Cluster (Sukhothai, Kamphaengphet, Phitsanulok, and Tak).

7. Khong River Cluster (Loei, Nongkhai, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, and Buengkan).

8. Chao Phraya River Cluster (Singburi, Ang Thong, Ayutthaya, Pathumthani, and Nonthaburi).
