Social Media Philanthropy? There’s a Site for That

A new platform is inspiring social good through smart social media.

Quipist is a recently-launched social media platform that allows the users to control how they view their content. Better yet, revenue generated through activity on the platform and fundraisers will go to worthy causes which are listed on the site.  More worthy organizations will be added as the site membership grows.

“This venture is about community and empowering that community to make leveraged positive change in the world by helping to fund worthy ‘social good’ causes with their social media activity,” says Quipist cofounder Emanuel F. Barros. “We've reached a point where it's more important to take actions that will bring about positive change in the world in a positive make-a-difference sort of way.”  

How it works: Quipist members link their social media feeds to their Quipist account, and then invite friends to join the currently invitation-only free site. Members learn about Quipist causes, and support them with their social media activity on Quipist.

Though Quipist is a for-profit venture, profit was not the startup’s driving factor, says cofounder Aric J. Katterhagen. Rather, they’re in it for the social good.

“We believe through a for-profit endeavor we can make a larger impact,” says Katterhagen. “This is also why we established the nonprofit Quipist Foundation which is explained on the site. We believe that in the ‘information age’ world we live in, it's now possible to fund causes that give back to the community without the struggle attached to nonprofits.”

adds Barros, an experienced entrepreneur who’s launched several previous startups. “We've been asked: 'Why don't you just start a nonprofit?'  Our response  is always: ‘Why struggle when you can run a for-profit and support your causes?'  If you're a giver and not greedy, it's a no-brainer. More companies and startups are doing this and we love it.”
