Sessions College Reaches Out To ITT Tech Students on Credit Transfer

On Sept. 6, 2016, ITT Educational Services Inc., the parent company of ITT Technical Institute, notified students that they were closing online and live classes at 136 ITT Technical Institute locations across the country. 

In response, Sessions College joins a group of concerned institutions offering outreach, advisement, and credit transfer to ITT Tech students. 

The closing of ITT Technical Institute was a sad day for respected career school with a 50-year pedigree. Tens of thousands of students in technical and career programs were potentially left without a credential or a path to a degree. Compounding this issue, many media outlets reported that ITT students would not be able to transfer credits to other schools. 

As an online school offering creative and technical career programs, Sessions College (sessions.edu) supports efforts to help ITT students continue and complete their programs by transferring their earned credits to relevant programs.

According to Sessions College President Gordon Drummond, "In spite of its apparent issues, ITT Technical Institute was a nationally accredited school offering many fine courses and programs. There's no question that students who earned credits at ITT Tech should be able to transfer them to equivalent courses at other accredited schools." 

Sessions College is encouraging ITT Tech students affected by the school closure to reach out its Admission team for a free credit evaluation. Director of Admissions Mhelanie Hernandez explains: "ITT Tech offered a wide range of programs in graphic arts and in visual design, with majors such as Visual Communications Web Design, Computer Drafting and Design, and IT - Multimedia." Those students, according to Hernandez, may be able to transfer credits and complete degree or certificate programs at Sessions College.  

Sessions College offers a range of online programs for creative career training, including Associate Degree and Undergraduate Certificate programs in Graphic Design, Web Design, and Digital Media. 

"Obviously, ITT Tech students stranded by school closure face choices about their future, and whether to complete their education at another institution or explore alternatives," comments Drummond. "Sessions College can help, because we focus on providing high quality and affordable programs in the creative/technical space served by ITT Tech and we welcome students who wish to transfer credits from a wide range of accredited schools."
