Javier Rúa Jovet, Esq.  selected by ICANN to represent and oversee the rights of millions of Internet users in the region

The President of the Puerto Rico Telecommunications Regulatory Board (PRTRB), Javier Rúa Jovet, Esq. has been selected, after a rigorous process, by the Nominations Committee of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to a global committee in charge of overseeing the interests and rights of Internet users. Rúa Jovet will represent the North American region, including Puerto Rico, estimated at 300 million people. This honorary designation to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC), which does not involve any type of compensation, will be effective for two years starting in November 2016.

The At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) is composed of 15 members, two appointed for each of the five regional organizations and five members selected by the Nominating Committee (NomCom) of ICANN. NomCom is mandated to ensure ICANN demonstrates its overall leadership, geographical and cultural diversity, as well as its capacity, experience and perspective. Selection criteria to ALAC requires candidates with proven integrity, objectivity and reasonable criteria, who can support the group’s decision making, can work effectively in English and understand the mission and functioning of ICANN.  The candidates must be committed to attaining success, have experience in global issues, contribute to cultural, professional and geographical knowledge and can work hard, to accomplish global public trust.

About PRTRB: The Puerto Rico Telecommunications Regulatory Board was created in 1996 to promote competition in the telecommunications industry. PRTRB is the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico authority that exercises state-level regulatory, quasi-judicial/arbitral and user protection powers over all telecommunications, CableTV, IPTV and DBS providers in the island.
