MONTEVIDEO, URAGUAY - 09/17/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Pablo Soria de Lachica is an acclaimed international broker who knows firsthand the challenges of a pursuit of success. After many years of diligent work that led to a career in international trading, he relied on tenacious dedication to become an expert in the foreign exchange market. Acquiring a reputation for leadership and insightful advice in the field, he went on to develop educational investment tools to share advanced techniques and strategies with others. A strong advocate for causes aiding those at both the local and global levels, Pablo Soria de Lachica was inspired by the Uruguayan Paralympic athletes who share his focused commitment, tireless perseverance and unwavering competitiveness. Though the teammates live with a range of physical disabilities, the only thing they truly lack is funding. Pablo Soria de Lachica was moved by their struggle, and is a proud supporter of Uruguay’s Team and their drive to compete in the 2016 Paralympic Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Many of the athletes are working not only to advance within the ranks of their chosen sport, but to bring attention to less popular events within Uruguay. Two-time judo Paralympic candidate Henry Borges is preparing to become the first from his country to participate in three Games; he was knocked out of the first round in 2008 in Beijing and 2004 in Athens. The 33-year-old, who took home gold in the Toronto 2015 Parapan Am Games, knows that sponsors like Pablo Soria de Lachica can make all the difference helping him to qualify for Rio—much as they did last year. “Lack of funding was the main issue. I did not have money to buy a judogi [traditional judo uniform] and even less to travel abroad to compete.” But Borges understands the importance of his presence at the competition—not only for himself, but also for garnering interest within his homeland: “I feel proud and believe this is a major accomplishment since judo is an amateur sport in my country, where everyone plays football.”

The generous backing of Pablo Soria de Lachica and other supporters has also gained interest from professional sporting associations. UK organization IWAS (the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation) was drawn to the plight of Montevideo hopefuls. To further the national development of sport fencing, the group provided members of the team with the necessary metal aprons worn during matches. Other athletes, like horsewoman Alfonsina Maldonado secured an invitation for the equestrian dressage event through the Bipartite Commission Invitation Allocation, but even still maintains a crowdfunding page to accept donations for her Brazilian campaign.

While the team hopes to gain the right to contend for medals in Rio, beyond Maldonado’s spot, nothing is assured. Competitions for this year’s largest event have been taking place since 2014, with more than 4,000 athletes from over 170 nations aiming for placement. In dramatic fashion, the long journey toward bringing home the gold will remain unclear until shortly before the Games are set to begin, when the International Paralympic Committee releases the official list of participants. The Rio 2016 Paralympic Games take place September 7th-18th, 2016.
