Autism Advocate and Author Launches New Memoir to Help Others Understand Autism Spectrum Disorder

From diagnosis through middle school

GLENVIEW IL - 12/05/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Diane Mayer Christiansen, author of several young adult novels, has switched gears in this moving memoir of her life with her son and his autism spectrum disorder. The book, PLANET A: A Mother’s Memoir of Autism Spectrum Disorder is due for release in January 1, 2017.

Parents as well as educators have expressed a need for an all-telling book with a glimpse of ASD from the inside of closed doors. “ASD looks very different in my home when compared to a school atmosphere,” says Christiansen. “My son is trained to keep it together in that arena and also knows that home is a safe place to unload.” Christiansen’s son Jackie is also a published author and has entered into high school this past fall.

Christiansen has been speaking for over ten years about ASD with the hope that educators and parents will understand their children better and learn strategies to help them. She is an advocate of the SEL (Social Emotional Learning) programs begun by CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) and hopes to spread these ideas.

Planet A is Christiansen’s first nonfiction work. It is real and raw and even a little bit cheeky. The book is available at Amazon.com as well as Ingram. For more information about her works or for speaking information visit www.dianemayerchristiansen.com.
