AUSTIN, TX - 06/29/2016 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

Since 1959, the Next-to-New Shop of St. David's Episcopal Church has provided a source of hope, connection, and strength to the local Austin, Texas community. This thriving consignment store is not just a place to find quality used items, but an epicenter of sustainable community empowerment that just keeps on giving back.

Austin’s Oldest & Only Non-Profit Consignment Store

Next-to-New is indeed Austin’s oldest and only nonprofit consignment retail store, featuring 5 employees and approximately 75 dedicated volunteers who are passionate about serving and strengthening their community. Part retail store part outreach center, customers and consignors come from all walks of life, from single moms to antique enthusiasts. Consignors receive a 50/50 split on all sold merchandise and, by all accounts, business is booming.

In 2015 alone, Next-to-New distributed approximately $334,000 to its consignors. Following consignor payments, all net profits are sent to St. David’s.  Furthermore, those funds are divided evenly between the upkeep and renovation of the historic church and the St. David’s grant recipient program – an annual initiative that the church designed to benefit other nonprofits in the Central Texas area.

The St. David’s Grant Recipient Program
Started in 1989, the St. David’s Annual Grant Recipient program has donated well over $5 million to hundreds of nonprofits in the local area, currently including Austin Children Services, Junior League of Austin (Food in Tummies), AGE of Central Texas, The Early Memory Loss Support Program, and People’s Community Clinic Center for Adolescent Health, among others.

“Everything we do here is community centered and in the last 57 years we’ve enjoyed a tremendous amount of success. Our mission at Next-to-New is to convey through words and actions our conviction that all of us—consignors, customers, staff, and volunteers—are children of God who are worthy of courtesy, honesty, respect, kindness, and generosity in dealing with each other. This vitality and enthusiasm for our fellow man just ripples out into the community and what comes back is truly inspiring. We are thrilled and humbled by the role our store plays in this chain reaction of empowerment since 1959 and are excited for what 2016 will hold for our grant recipients. “
