KeyLok Ladder Leveling System Passes Tough New ANSI Ladder Accessory Requirements for Step Ladders

Levelok Corporation, based in Poulsbo, Washington, recently completed extensive ANSI (American National Standards Institute) load testing of the KeyLok, Quick Connect Leveling System on a variety of industrial grade fiberglass Step Ladders, up to a Type 1AA, 375 pound duty rating.  The results were 100% successful.  This type of accessory implementation is new to the industry, thanks to the recent publication of ANSI A14.8 Safety Requirements for Ladder Accessories, which were crafted to help provide safe solutions for companies and individuals using portable ladders on a regular basis.  It is the first-ever set of Safety Standards for Ladder Accessories in North America.

Before the American National Standards Institute officially published these standards, ladder accessories were not subject to any particular, documented testing criteria.  Step Ladders have historically been known to be off-limits for accessories requiring installation of any kind because of the nature of their construction and intended use; free standing on flat surfaces.  The new ANSI Standard clearly spells out loading requirements for accessories used on all types and duty ratings of portable ladders, including step ladders.  It also defines testing criteria for the same accessories to be tested in various configurations, not attached to ladders, but as stand alone items.  These are among the most brutal of the load tests, conceived to filter out as many unsafe, inferior accessories on the market as possible.
