LOS ANGELES, CA - 01/17/2017 (PRESS RELEASE JET)

5 Films About Technology announces its U.S debut with acceptance into the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. The short, 5 Films About Technology, originally premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2016, and refers to itself as ‘a comedy of manners,’ a form of comedy historically used to satirize upper classes. The film is meant to poke fun at the fact that we have become a cell-phone and social media focussed, (and obsessed), society. The film’s viewpoint is a relevant, continuous conversation now commonly held through various communities and house holds. 5 Films is bringing it to the forefront of the film world through their innovative, smart and humorous short.

The film stars a variety of television and film actors, all portraying key roles that illustrate everyday scenarios in which technology has become ever present and overused. “It is meant to be a ‘first world problems’ joke on the world of social media and technology” notes director Peter Huang.

5 Films is the perfect mix of cleverness and subtlety. The directing and producing team wanted to show “...how smart phones do not always make us smarter....and thought it was easier to absorb these self-deprecating truths during a comedic short” noted film co-star and producer Jonathan Keltz. “Hopefully our audience will be able to laugh at their reflection in the mirror we hold up.”

5 Films About Technology is directed by Peter Huang and co-produced by actor Jonathan Keltz (who starred on CW’s Reign, with previous co-starring roles in HBO’s
Entourage, films 21 & Over and Disney’s Prom, among others), and notable music video producer Evan M. Landry. The short also features cast members Kate D rummond (W ynonna Earp), Spencer Macpherson ( Reign, Degrassi Next Generation), Michelle Mylett (F our in the Morning), Aislinn Pau l ( Freakish, Heroes Reborn), Chloe Rose (Teenagers , Rookie Blue), Marilla Wex (The Beaverton) and Supinder Wraich ( Rookie Blue, Haven).

Sundance is a key milestone for all involved in the film. “We are very excited to be showing the film at Sundance! Sundance has been one of those things, that as a director, you always see as a major step in your career. We are so grateful for our short to be a part of this year’s lineup, at such a prestigious festival,” stated Huang. Keltz adds “Sundance is a tremendous platform to showcase a film, not to mention an honor and privilege to be selected. I am beyond thrilled that my first time in the festival is both as a producer and an actor.”

“Almost daily since we found out we were accepted into Sundance, we have thought to ourselves, wow! Just WOW! ....Things move so quickly in this industry that you do not always have time to appreciate them while they happen, you just move on to the next project.... I really want to take the time to appreciate this, and take it all in, as Sundance has been a goal my entire career,” commented 5 Films co-producer Evan M. Landry.

The short will debut at the festival on Friday, January 20th, prior to the premiere screening of “L.A. Times” directed by Michelle Morgan, starring Dree Hemingway, Jorma Taccone, Kentucker Audley, Margarita Levieva and Adam Shapiro. There will then be five additional viewings for public and media to attend, listed below.
